So from what I understand you let the charcoal burn slowly but not actually catch fire? So just like glowing red but no actual fire? Also do I leave the top on or off the grill? Will one grill be enough for a small room about the size of a normal bathroom?
Why what way are you looking to go and when ? In a car tent or bathroom ?
I'm under the impression (for example a disposable barbecue) hat you light it outside fully so all the coals flame and it smokes then when it stops smoking and the coals are ash white bring into tent it car shut the door leave it for a few minutes then enter
If using a chimney starter same method - you pour the coals into the chimney starter put paper inbetween the coals light the paper which in turn lights the coals again let it burn off until the coals are white embers then tip them into a tin bucket and place the bucket in tent or car again let the carbon monoxide build up then enter
Now it depends on how you want your death to look - do you want it to look like a suicide ? If so duct tape the gaps up so in a car the windows the air vents in a tent any dealings including the zip to the door then option leave a note
If you don't want it to look a suicide which sometimes helps family members cope with their grief - don't duct tape up don't leave a suicide note and maybe bring a pack of burgers sausages anything you can cook on a barbecue- don't cook though drop fat tings can affect the carbon monoxide output but by bringing the food it makes it look like you were preparing dinner and didn't realise the dangers of indoor barbecues and so your death will be recorded as misadventures or accidental - at least it will be in the UK courts

To briefly answer your questions above:
- You let the charcoal burn down, when it has turned to ember you put it inside your car or tent.
- To start the charcoal use a chimney starter
- About 1 to 1.5 kg of charcoal should be sufficient, use briquettes
- Leave the top off
Careful! Do not use this method indoors if there are other people/animals in the same house. CO can leak through walls or the floor. Also consider hanging up warning signs to minimize the risk for emergency units arriving.

Really not a good way if you're doing this for the first time , and considering that you had to ask here before having to look for the "method thread"......(which I also did).... I suggest you take TImE and go through the threads or other relevant resources... I ended up not doing it correctly and had to suffer from an agonizing pain in just about 5 hours , accompanied with 5 more days of nauseating feelings...... not to mentioned the possibility of a permanent semi - brain damage.
How did you do it incorrectly? I'm hoping that my first time will be my last...

well, I'm still texting and lurking around in hopes of something definite ..... if I knew what I did wrong, I wouldn't be texting here. but I think the amount of coal I used compared to the room I was in , wasn't compatible. I also didn't consider how it would be like having to sit in a room full of semi visible smoke ... it was very discomforting for eyes and nose/mouth, I used my swimming glasses for my eyes but I had to inhale...

Seriously what did you do wrong that has me worried as this was the method I was thinking of going out with ? I've heard it be used for one disposable barbecue to kill one person so how did you get it so wrong ?? The nauseating feelings also sound worryingly

Well, Korean singer burned a coal briquette on a frying pan in his own apartment and found dead.
That sounds horrible. I was thinking of using this method while sitting inside a wardrobe but I imagine it would get very hot and uncomfortable :(

I didn't have access to measure the amount of coal I used on a scale , but I did take 12 big chunks of them ( coal is everywhere here).....I thought it was enough. and I also didn't happen to keep a time but I lit them up until they were burned out and the room was full of smoke.
**Jhonnydoeuk ** yeah , I either had to do it in my room or in the car.............and I wasn't sure if putting a burning coal inside a car was a good idea. and I also read of people dying in their rooms of burning coal.

Hm... still curious about what went wrong here. Room not sealed enough or... simply just not enough coals?
Yes I think rooms are a bad idea too large next time if there is a next time use car or tent for maximum effect or a bathroom sealed doors

room not being sealed enough is my guess , because I remember having to duct tape the edges of the door and window multiple times just to block of the small breeze of air coming in from the outside.

might not be the outcome this but I've been having problems of crunching numbers as I used to before, being tired /mentally drained all the time (more so than usual)...and I have a feeling my lovely depression has gotten worse as well.
There must be zero smoke and you don't light it indoors!

Take that inside in a metal bucket or pan.
It's only when its well past its burning/smoke/flame stage that it produces mainly CO not CO2 which it does at the start.
No smoke should be coming off it by then. CO is an invisible gas, nothing to do with smoke or choking on fumes.
You've got a car to use which is far better than a room. Weigh out the charcoal, 750 grams is a nice amount for any car. Light it outside, when its ready move it to the rear of the car. Place the tray of now grey non smoking charcoal on top of a pan of water so the underside doesn't melt the carpet/floor.

Do it in your car next time is my best advice indoors is wrought with so many dangers fumes could leak into neighbouring property and kill innocents it's been known to happen one sad story was that of two old guys one who decided to ctb in the garage , his lodger another old guy innocent guy succumbed to the fumes as well as the pet dog the innocent guy didn't have a clue as the car given off the carbon monoxide was being run in the garage

Will there be excessive smoke during the burning process? Is 3 kg of coal overkill? I don't want other ppl to be suspicious that I'm burning something.
Prob only need 1kg of coal if using a chimney starter and emptying coals into a tin bucket
3kg for a big room maybe.
Use a chimney starter to get it lit well. It cuts down on smoke if you don't use newspaper under it. I use a small empty tuna tin and light 2 firelighting cubes on it. Then place the chimney over the tin and it lights up nicely with minimal smoke.
3kg is way too much. 750g works well. I've tested it with a meter and temp gauge.
Lighting charcoal in a pot is impossible as the parts at the bottom won't get any airflow so won't burn.
This is why the chimney is so good, plenty of airflow and lighting underneath is the best way. Less than $10, get one.
