Is there any hope to be had... you know... with all that is happening right now?.

With India having gone into full quarantine, the biggest producer of medication has been knocked out. Seeing how Italy, a country with far less population, is still uncapable of controlling the disease, with two months of quarantine, I would count that India will take at least 3 months of quarantine to stabilize the situation. With 3 months of the biggest producer of medications out of the market, and the ever increasing demand of the same medications around the globe as we are all using the same medications for the same issue... Well...

Yes, this isn't the end of humanity. That much is absolutely certain.
But with each day that passes it seems more clear the future will become something along the lines of a post-apocalyptic world.

I wanted to know if anyone would like to disagree... dunno why. Perhaps hearing counter-arguments may give me hope? perhaps out of a mere dumb curiosity.

Whicever the case may be, I still got my SN at hand, and for that I thank you guys, I got it thanks to you and your advices and resources.

Well, i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of us here aren't financially well. There was a book written called "The great leveler" and it said only 3 things helped inequality. War, revolution, and...pandemics. (For those wondering Democracy, capitalism and 'having personal freedoms" don't help in the slightest). So hopefully for those that come after this will help. But who knows.

What worries me the most is that if we barely can handle this pandemic, we will probably not be able to handle a really dangerous one. Most epidemiologists seem to agree that it's not a question of "if", but of "when" such a pandemic will come. Maybe mankind will learn this time and prepare for the future, but I wouldn't bet any money on it.

The pandemic is just the tip of a very very large iceberg. What do you think will happen afterwards? What comes next?
This was always coming in one form or another. We are at that point in the life cycle of our species.
I was kinda hoping it wouldn't happen for a couple of generations.

It has not been stopped or, OP said, knocked out. It is in jeopardy.

However, according to the next link, "most companies feel that they are relatively well positioned to weather short-term disruption. This is because many publicly traded companies have six months to a year of stockpiles; however, if restrictions continue for an extended period of time, especially if people in China cannot get back into the factories to work, eventually supply chain shortages will start to disrupt everyone." Also, many pharmaceutical companies are shifting production to other locations than China and India.

I wanna die... I am really considering using that SN right now... I just had a horribly apocalyptic view of the future. I pictured how the events would play out in the most horrible of fashions... I don't wanna live it. I don't even wanna speak out of what my view of the future is in fears it may hurt others here.

Thank you all for your optimism and good attitude. I don't know what to say anymore... I am more afraid of being alive than of death at this point.

I think there will come a limit on what pharmaceuticals will be able to do, there is currently research going on on a bird disease that is much worse than this. One could have seen this happening with population growth and man's nefarious incursions into the balance of the entire ecosystem. My feeling is that mankind will make himself extinct fairly soon. I agree with coming post-apocalyptic times. It's been the time biblical prophecy points to. Though the whole of the prophecy seems magical to the human mind, and the bible is contradictory in many places, one can't deny that something outre' is happening. I have hope for a better place, and a kinder community of brotherhood somewhere in this cosmos.

I understand how you feel, yuk! Maybe some people who can can get together and pitch in to help the needy, if you have the physical strength. It's good to do something to make one forget about their own angst for a while, by giving something to others.

Thank you Cleopatra. You are a really kind person. I wish I could chat with you, but sadly I got banned from the chat, and can't appeal against it, I am not allowed to post on the appeal section. As such, I am sadly locked off from the chat. But you are a kind person, and I wish you the best.

Yeah... I got horrible thoughts on my mind. I wish it would stop. I wish I didn't think so much. But I do. And it won't stop.

This sound very fatalistic, but I don't care if the world population is knocked down a few million by a pandemic. I don't care if I died from it. What I worry about (and what keeps me hypervigilent that I don't catch it) is what if I had it and unknowingly spread it to another. I don't want someone to die because of me.

Once it dies off as pandemics do, my biggest fear is the economic turmoil. Right now the government is taking care of people to some extent, but what about in a year or two and the violence and social unrest that often comes with poverty.
I try to be optimistic and think that it may reset the economy somehow. Maybe relying less on China will lead to more factories and jobs here -? Its hard to be hopeful.

I hope you will get your chat privileges back. It's very hard to make it stop. My mind has always been a running bicycle, and I'm trying to stop but reality never stops, nor the phone with unpleasantness. Maybe music, good cinema, that used to help me, I was a writer, and haven't been able to in a year. I wonder how many people are this sad, this stressed, this lonely. How about a comedy movie or show?

For me it has been videogames, and youtube videos of videogames. I have dual monitor... well actually one is a drawing table with a screen that I no longer use since I quitted drawing, and the other is a TV that I do not use for it's intended role since I despise television content... So I play games on one screen and watch nonsense on youtube on the other. It helps me, a lot, but sadly my mind is... perhaps very pessimistic, thus such horrible thoughts... or perhaps very smart, in letting me predict the future with accuarcy. I don't know. Many times I have had such pessimstic thoughts, and they have never materialized... so perhaps that should be an indication for me that this ideas are never realistic.
Wanna tell me more about your passions, both current ones and others you have left behind?. I would love to hear more.

I think when one is so bound to a torrent of tortures, it is easy to fear the future. What can happen next, and it's very frequent lately, personally. Then one has to add the craziness of a plague. I was brought up with few and primitive surroundings (well, not quite primitive), so I've never enjoyed much this cyber space thing, although, at least here one can communicate. It does look bleak, but if one is young enough, there are plenty of more people suffering, why not surrender in the meaning in forgetting self and giving whatever one can. We'll never really know the what and where about fate. Though it is easier to think of surrender, and some have no choice, it's matter to make what hay one can while we're stuck here. I don't really understand the lure of video games, but I do play solitaire sometimes. I've always been interested in learning, I'm a retired nurse, interested in music, literature, history, drawing, and my biggest passion was writing. But, I haven't been able to push my mind away from harsh realities of all kinds. It seems as all my passions are left behind, we don't last forever, do we, lol, and I should mention alternative medical researcher because I believe medicine in this country stinks! I think video games seduce people into a fantasy world. May I ask, how old you are?

Thank you for your words. I am 27 years old.

Perhaps I should be more hopeful, if nothing else to be thankful of my privilege in this times, being young and healthy, living in a country that decided to go into full quarantine when there were less than a hundred cases confirmed. A very anti-social person, which means that most of my life has been lived in a level of isolation that makes this situation seem very common for me, and less stressful. I even still have a job as I can work from home thanks to my company.

Regardless, the horrible visions that form on my head of what the future looks like have today crushed any posibilty of optimism inside of me.

I wanna thank this community for helping me to accept, and embrace, the eternal peace of death. Not that i intend to rush it, and I do intend to take the easy way out only when circumstances seem and become unbearable. But on everyday I spend, as much as my thoughts distress me, to know that I have nothing to fear of death is an incredibly soothing thought.

I hope you can find the harmony you need to return to your arts, Cleopatra. It certainly sounds like you may craft some beautiful works, if you put yourself to it.

You do have a lot to be thankful for. I can understand feeling anti-social. It's very hard to relate peacefully in our culture, people are not as sincere, and kind as they should be, and often make superficial and hurtful judgments of other people based on their own ignorance. Even in easier times, people were not so judgmental, about silly things, like kids having to have the right brand of sneakers to be accepted. It's sad. But, it's on them, it's who they are, and I hope you don't take common poor scruples to heart. I too think this is a very good community, a place to share, and be accepted. It's great that you work, I may have said it before, sometimes we can overcome some of our angst, by focusing our physical/mental attention outward; the helping of other people is one way, what you get from it is not real appreciation, but you get to know that you did something good. Yes, I always try to be thankful for what I do have, because there is always someone who has it worse. It was nice to hear you speak gratefully. I hope to write more, if I must be here, and I hope for peace too. Be well

Ironic how capitalism now seems to be asking socialism to bail it out.

Unfortunately, yes. Holocene Extinction. Malthusian Crisis. Predicted a good few years ago by some, including a Mr Bill Gates.

Have you discussed any of your concerns, fears or plans with your mother?

She's seen a lot worse of your country's history than you have. Is she also afraid?

Thank you. No, I have not discussed any of this, obviously. I am terrified she may take the SN away from me and throw it away. Or worse, that I may hurt her. I mean, I don't know what lies ahead of us in this times, but for the meantime, I want her to be as happy as she can be. To enjoy what I believe are our last moments on earth. I wish she wouldn't suffer under any circumstance, but sadly there is nothing I can do to protect her from this, other than all that I have already done.

As for your last assessment... I highly doubt it. She did live through the yellow fever epidemic in my country, but she was only a child at the time... and a local epidemic is nothing compared to a worldwide pandemic. Or perhaps it is. I don't know. My mind is full of apocalyptic thoughts that lead me to believe this'll be the end of mankind. Thus, no event, none that she has lived, none in the history of this nation, none in the history of all of mankind, is as bad as this one. So I don't think anything she tells me would be of any help.

Afraid? perhaps. She does seem stressed, although she is an incredibly strong woman, so I don't dare to use the word afraid to describe it. She is eating less, so am I, we are both perhaps eating only one meal a day. Had her upwards and downwards on her mood. I am uncertain if it is cause she is simply concerned for my grandparents... or if she is, as I am, scared for the grand scheme of things. I can't tell. All I know is... I have a feeling of certainty that the predictions of the future that loom on my head are so terrifying I would take the SN rather than see into the darkhole that I imagine the future to be.

I wont. Not yet. But I keep thinking about it... afraid of how effective will it be. Sad I couldn't complement it with some N. I guess it'll be a matter of time to see if I ever even need to use it.
