It was very humane because its so quick. Not a bad way to go at all.

Building your own...….now that would be something!

I've thought about this for decades.
A) it would be an engineering challenge for me to design and build one with my own three hands.
B) a quick and painless death!

If I'm not mistaken, a guy in England built one in his backyard several years ago, and decapitated himself with it.

Yes. I always wanted to build one but it will be suspicious since I don't live alone and I'm too lazy to do it.

I imagine it would take me such a long time to build it, that I'll probably die of old age before it's finished.

I am not sure how would you operate it by yourself. Would it require assistance?

Hmm...I think it might be possible to have one where you can just put your neck in the groove and then pull a rope to release the blade.

Yeah. Sounds like a fun DIY project, tbh.

If I was 'handy' enough to build a guillotine I probably wouldn't be unemployed and wouldn't be on here:)

Pity you can't just order one from Argos ,have it delivered and do a quick self assembly.....but no ,its just wardrobes and coffee tables.....Life isn't fair...! )

(The last criminal execution by guillotine in France took place in 1977 , just in case anyone's interested)

No, because I know that I'll fuck up somewhere and guillotines need a lot of technical knowledge to function correctly, and even then, there's always the possibility of it getting stuck halfway resulting in a very painful death.

If you fucked it up, it would be seriously bad. It has to be big and work flawlessly. You'd need to test it on something similar.

But to be honest, you'd be an asshole to leave a decapitated body for someone to find. Can't imagine how traumatizing that would be, and you'd be all over the news.
