I have have had severe generalised anxiety disorder for a long time and this has caused me to make unhealthy choices in my life that over time I feel will lead to some complications such as:
- heart issues
- vision issues
- skin issues
heart and vision issues
my anxiety causes me to seek refuge in workaholism/overproductivity. for example, I'm constantly reading advanced books in maths and physics etc because studying is how I cope. i don't have a job yet but I know that if I decide to work, I'll be a workaholic and this will cause me to develop issues like vision issues or back issues. I can stay 38h straight on a desk starring at a book when I'm really anxious. this can't be good for the heart to stay in the same position for that long.
skin issues
another way my anxiety expresses itself is I tend to take too many showers in a single day. I'm obsessed with cleanliness and overtime, I might develop skin issues even if I apply lotion after showering.
Other issues
when I was a student, I wouldn't go to the dentist because of social anxiety and this has caused me to develop teeth issues. I eventually did end up going however with great pain.
Another way depression and anxiety might lead to serious health issues in someone is the inability to work and therefore pay for medical bills. Or the inability to save money for emergency or retirement.
