Society put an arbitrary beauty canon and makes feel bad to everybody who can't fulfill it. Shit. Fucking cowards with no personality. They deserve somebody disfigures all their faces with horrible accidents and I'm sure that cunts won't make others feel bad so frequently. Rotten humans. I shit on "beauty".

I could care less about my appearance, I mean yes I do look ugly and it does bother me sometimes to actually try to look nicer. But for the most part I don't give any shit.

of course you can change something-it's called working out, dieting and plastic surgery if that is what is bothering you.

back before social media everyone just kinda sticks to their own circle... so nobody was pressured to conform as much, but now things are so insanely different, glad i am a recluse really

Not for being ugly but for not being attractive, i think for males it doesn't even make that much difference being ugly or average, as women only seek tbe top 20% of men in attractiveness.

I used to when I was younger but I grew out of it. I realised that it didn't really matter that much as attraction is only partly based on looks.

If I wasn't ugly my life would be a lot better. It's strange how much your looks matter. A couple milimeters of skin and bone.

That is part of it. Not the whole picture, but part of it.

Unfortunately, I can't afford the plastic surgery I want, and I'll probably never be able to.

There are some things about my appearance that I hate that cannot be fixed with plastic surgery. There just isn't an operation that exists for it yet.

And the things I hate about my appearance won't go away with simple exercise and diet. Doing that won't change my features or height.

My thing is I went from ugly, to good looking, to ugly again but permanently. I can't fix it now no matter what I do. I used to be able to but due to an accident but i can't anymore.

I disagree on beauty standards being "arbitrary" though. Beautiful face with symmetry and smooth skin indicates the person in question is healthy which implies her offsprings will have higher chance of survival. Hence, we as a society care more about attractive people who will help our species perpetuate. Unfortunately those with faulty genes are less important in the eyes of nature. It sucks but that's how it is.

I agree with you partially. I also admit that true beauty exist. What is wrong is the push of society in considering that as the only value among with money. It's a byproduct of this tv-show alike society where everyone must be at top condition and perform the best. That on itself is byproduct of capitalism and celebration of money, fame and so on.

Apart from this, I think that there aren't actually ugly people, nor women nor men. Most people considered "ugly" generally are people that hadn't access to necessary health care and education. "Ugliness" in general has to do with having malocclusion, crooked theeth, severe skin problems, being obese, etc.
There are not ugly people but poor or ineducated people, and it is not theor guilt but of our governments.

So to sum it up, despite beauty existing in varying degrees, it is a problem of culture. Without an evolution in thought we can't have an evolution in society.

I used to be attractive up until like age 34 but I'm not anymore and yea it really kills your self confidence. It seemed to happen over night too. I look in the mirror and I don't recognize myself as I used to be. Aging is depressing, unless you have enough meaning in life to offset how ugly u feel.

I understand it and I think it's well exposed but it also depends of considering true beauty or not. There exist people who feels attraction to obese people, there was a japanese fashion which consisted in operating your teeth for crooking them, etc. which means people as individuals can feel attraction to basically every kind of person even if it's very rare.

Also, health is attractive for society in most part if cases, I agree but not always. Another example, muscled women are not "beautiful" for some people and they keep a healthier life than most part of the others.

The problem is society which canonized beauty and imposed an objective concept to everybody. And how humans are animals too, before having a solid society, health was extremely important like in every animal which wants to keep the specie. With time, health was linked to beauty too. But still, you can be healthy and still being considered "ugly", which is relatively common.

I think I got your point better now. I agree with you with only a different nuance in meanings.

Despite different and even bizarre tastes, we research beauty in ourselves, in a partner, in nature and even in things. It's undeniable I think.

I agree that problem is society because anyone should be able to like what he likes without imposed conditioning.

My point is that some sort of beauty canon is already "built" inside most of us. It's my view, not that it is necessarily true, but if you see beauty canons remained almost the same for centuries before the globalized media society of tv and internet.

The mistake just now, is the society push on an artificial and extremized and elitist beauty canon, and the push on an idea where people that don't perfectly adhere to this canon are automatically ugly.

Results don't change: as you said we have lots of people considered ugly when they actually are not and are instead perfectly "good looking", whatever that means. And those exact people wouldn't have been considered ugly just some decades ago.

From my point of view, an healthy person which is in reasonable good shape already has all the beauty that I can think of. Then, anyone can have his absolutely personal view of what beauty is and that should be respected by individuals and by society.

I used to lie to myself that I wasn't ugly. But there is no denying it. I was ugly then and I am ugly now. This is probably why girls are so disinterested in me and only let me talk to them occasionally for the attention. Being extremely socially awkward I'm sure is a big reason. But being ugly definitely does not help.

My appearance isn't the driving reason behind why I want to ctb, but years of being embarrassed by how I look and knowing I'm unattractive has significantly contributed to the mindset. I started losing my hair in my early 20s which greatly affected me (I'm female) and my lifelong poor health affected the rest of my body/looks. And there wasn't anything I could do to make my appearance better and believe me, I tried. For decades I held onto the hope that I'd get healthy again, that my hair would miraculously regrow again, that I'd have a chance to feel youthful and beautiful, or at least somewhat attractive. For over 25 years I held tightly onto the one thing that kept hope alive for a better future: time. Even though I knew I'd never be gorgeous or anything, but I thought I could at least maybe one day look 'better', look healthy which, to me, very much equates to 'beauty'. But now all that time has passed by, and now the aging process has made my looks even worse -- and I think, why should someone my age care about looks so much anymore anyway? I do wish I could've experienced what it felt like to be young and beautiful, be desired, sexy, and confident in my body and my own skin but that wasn't in the cards for me in this life.

This is how life went "life is beautiful" then acne disease ruined it leading to abuse/bullying in school shutting down all positive emotions, leading to toxic first relationship, leading to me having a bad perception of the world and humanity expecting to be abused by men later on ruining my final chances. It's over

I'm maybe not ugly, but I could definitely look a lot better. I envy very attractive people a lot, I wish I could be like them. I know virtually for certain that I will become uglier with age as well, so I want to get out of her before I really do become ugly for sure.

Its not really my reason, if I was physically beautiful I would still want to die. I am horrified though if I see myself in any mirrors. I look so pale and ill. It does make a lot of sense what the op is saying about that hard work cannot change it. I feel like if I tried to cover up my ugliness with makeup, it would simply not help anything. For the most part I do think I am past caring about this specific topic at this point but I know it can be devastating for others and ruin lives.

I just now realised that this thread is so old, yet it is on the front page. 2018 feels like a long time ago now, of course even back then I wanted to die.
