  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

I don't think this forum promotes suicide, self harm or negativity. However, it gives us the opportunity to talk about our suffering and pain freely and openly.

I think suicide should be a legal right for every human being. And it shouldn't be called suicide but retiring from life, or ending the life battle.

as we discuss * retiring from life* openly here, I feel more accepted. It isn't wrong to feel the pain, it isn't wrong to give up in life. It is just our choice. Some people want to keep going in life and suffer more, some get to the point where they can't handle the pain anymore and it isn't wrong. We were forced to be here and we should have the right to stay or leave.

The community here is kind and tolerant, we can get very useful suggestions on both recovery and leaving peacefully. Life is never easy and we should stand for each other and respect others' choices in life.

Sending hugs to every one in here, and I wish life had treated us better and I hope everything gets better at your side.

It's a shame that such a place like this even have to exist, tbh.

Stigmatizing anything, shaming or isolating a "socially abnormal" person isn't going to just magically make the issue disappear.

Wish more people understood this.

I feel loads better. Like I'm not fighting anyone on right to life or death. Seeing people say that you shouldn't CBT no matter what is pretty stressful. And none of the help seems to actually work. I feel more free here =)

It's nice to know we're not alone. Would not recommend talking about your feelings outside this forum, you will be humiliated and treated like a criminal.

In the sense that I am not suffering alone. Also in the sense that there seems to be a good number of people here who genuinely care and empathize. Therapeutic for some, comfort before the Great After? that we all eventually end up at for otherd.

Yes. If I'm feeling down, I come here and start feeling better; because here I can have support and people can understand how I feel so I know I'm not alone. This place gives me strength, not take it away.

But why?! Why does it have to be like this?! It's not like you're doing something heinous or damaging to others...

Yes it really does. I've tried hotlines and other recovery sites but I always felt worse afterwards. I also tried doing what everyone else said, which was to "suck it up". Yea doing that pushed me to my lowest point. But this place really is different. I feel comforted here because there's no judgement and everyone understands what it's like.

I think the idea is if they detain you, you'll be protected from yourself and recover. In reality is just breeds distrust and greatly amplifies the stigma around the topic.

Ending forced hospitalisation and admitting we're doing more harm then good is the only way forward. Until that day i would recommend keeping it to yourself.

Yes, SS makes me feel much better and I've met lots of nice people here!

I'm so glad there are individuals who actually understand how I feel and won't judge me.

I've tried different therapists, psychiatrists, talking to ex friends and my family but nothing worked, except for SS.

I'm so happy to be part of this community.

You can count on me!

When I first joined and the 3 months thereafter I felt good, but then I became addicted to this place and it started becoming a normal thing for me to log in everyday to see what's going on. It doesn't feel good, but it also doesn't feel bad.

Yes, I agree. It is good to have a place where people can talk about suicide anonymously without judgement. If people are isolated it will just make their thoughts worse. I think if someone opened up in real life others would panic and they would be constantly watched etc. I like this community as people here understand that suicide is not an awful immoral act but an rational response to never ending suffering.

Definitely. I am an extremely anxious person who worries about the future constantly, the thought of being able to end it all in 15 minutes helps me cope, and I have read on this site how to do it properly which is a huge help. I also like reading likeminded people's thoughts when they are similar to mine.

It taught me how many lives are unexpectedly damaged by chronic illness.
Accident and fate.

those are the ones that make me feel the most sad. Because they didn't do anything wrong. They were healthy, productive, emotionally stable people who descended into hell because. Just because. Fate.

I think it is because a good number of people...believe the heaven and hell thing and the thou shalt not kill phrase. So if they even discuss it, let alone be part of it... they are doomed. It is ALL fear of some form of retaliation and/or disapproval for examining something that was considered too taboo to have your own remedy for.

I guess i can say some of my dark bitter thoughts without always covering it up with the 'mighty positivity' theme like i should in real world.

But about feeling better, i still feel really horrible
cause im still suffering and whatever i say doesnt matter and it cant change the reality

I initially came here thought ill 'solve' this suicide issue quickly and can get on with it. But im still stuck :ohh:

I feel better insofar as I'm not alone. But this site can be a downer sometimes. It can be hard to get support, especially when it's related to recovery or when I want to talk about relationships.

So many posts are made in the suicide forum that could be made in off topic or recovery sections. I feel like I have to read the suicide section or else I'll miss out on some good discussions, and that if I post in recovery, it might not get as many responses. But there also so many posts in the suicide section that it's easy for threads to get ignored/buried quickly.

if you wanna talk about other topic aside from suicide there are many other places available

Some threads in the suicide subforum barely talk about suicide, or are about coping with suicidality without CTB, or recovering from depression. I would like to see these threads without having to sift through discussion of methods and goodbye threads.

post in suggestion forum?
I guess there could be 2 sections about depression talk and the actual ctb talk
also separation about coping with suicidal thoughts and planning ctb/method/goodbye thread

there are some suggestions made long ago about seperating the suicide sections into 2 but it doesnt seem to happen

I think it's a double edged sword, misery loves company as they say but sometimes we feel comfort knowing that we aren't the only ones struggling so we congregate here to find solace. Same as when people who have hobbies seek out clubs and groups to share similar views, ideas and so on.

I just think there needs to be a balance. I am guilty sometimes of making myself worse by getting embroiled in my own self loathing and coming here to have it highlighted by venting. Again it can be good to vent, just has to not obliterate us.

But I do find this place helps as people here are very understanding of whatever our issues are and people here can relate to unrelenting suffering and it's nice to not be judged for wanting to die.
Because people here get why we want to die and don't judge us for it. but they also don't expect us to either. Theres choice and Hope here too. Its not all doom and gloom but I can see how it might be easy to get stuck there. Ultimately though We have choices here and it's nice to see It's an open and free place to really let our deepest troubles free. Thanks SS (with my love of ww2 history I always feel a bit weird using the acronym sanctioned suicide, haha)

Yes this forum does make me feel better; it does not take away my suicidal thoughts, nothing can, but talking on here with other users about what we are experiencing certainly lifts some pressure off of our minds. This community has given me and others a level of support and understanding that is virtually non-existent elsewhere.

I feel that I am with people who actually understand, who don't think that you will solve your problems with going for a walk and taking useless tablets. You can only get over trauma by talking about it but it is just medication and CBT.

It definitely helps.

You see that there are many other people in need - some with the same problems - some with completely different ones.

And with some stories you see that there are much worse fates - even if it is sometimes very sad to read these texts.
