Don't they always sporadically patrol? Is it heightened now for some reason?

Not sure. Someone said they got fined just for standing on the highest peak while another said nothing happened to them even though they were standing there looking miserable. I'd scout the area beforehand. Maybe the patrollers have a schedule of some sort. Someone ctb there a few months ago so the place isn't patrolled 24/7.

Are you sure they were fined or just sectioned? How would one scout the area?

What are the odds of surviving that fall I wonder?

They didn't make any attempt to ctb( I mean they were just standing there) so fined. Just go to beachy head at different times. Pretend you're just sightseeing by bringing a camera. Not everyone who visits there is suicidal. It is a beautiful place after all.

Its extremely high so the odds are extremely low.

That's strange. Never heard of anyone being fined. I didn't think the Samaritans had that kind of power? Do you mean fined by the police?

Yes, probably wise to bring a bag and camera or something.

There are 24/7 patrol there including chaplains and police liaison but not impossible to avoid - they are based next to a cafe, there is a little building that they work from. If you use the search function there is a thread with some pictures on. I went there a number of years ago to CTB but when I got there it was beautiful, my SI kicked in and I couldn't jump. Worth baring in mind that you may need to overcome your SI. It was beyond me. It's a beautiful place to die though!

What a majestic looking place. Whoever dares to jump from this has some big fucking balls. I could use a pair.

Yes, and have thought of bringing a container of petrol with me to pour on myself to cause pain to get over SI and/or to threaten anyone trying to stop me.

I set off in the car once to Beachy Head. However, I backed out and turned around - combination of SI, worry about the chaplains patrolling, and an image of spending my last few seconds/minutes impaled on those rocks. I very much doubt I could do it (jump).

I don't know what it is like right now coming out of lockdown but ctb there is no problem. Patrols are sporadic and only the car driving up and down the road. In the day it can be very busy if the weather is good and lots of people take pix right on the edge and peak over and nobody questions it. There is no police (obviously) unless they are called if there is an incident. There are many walkers and nature enthusiasts but also plenty of teenagers and families just having a beautiful day out. I don't know why people keep spreading myths, I have been there many times so plan mt ctb, find best spot etc and just got to wait bow for lockdown to be lifted. It is mesmerising and beautiful and tbh doesn't even look that high, but then I am not afraid of heights. Wouldn't be suitable for someone who is.

I tried there recently. I failed couldn't jump. Just be certain you can jump and you can act 'normal' like a walker/bird watcher. I was caught by the chaplans immediately I think I was reported by 2 young lads because I heard them talking about it being a suicide spot as I walked past and then a minute later a chaplain appeared then my social anxiety kicked in and the whole thing was a disaster. I was also quite dissociated at the time so that didn't help either.
It's a very pretty place though.

I've thought about it before, and I wish I could but there's two reasons why I probably wouldn't meet others there; the first being I'm just paranoid and you never know whose genuine or whether you're being baited by someone whose goal is to stop you and report your intention to the police/MH services, and the second is you just never know if the other person(s) will back out. I wouldn't want to encourage someone to do something they weren't sure they really wanted (maybe for them it's just a cry for help, and they actually want to saved beforehand), additionally I would feel guilty if I CTB knowing someone who backed out would be left behind and likely in big trouble (because partners/pacts are illegal in the UK, right?). I don't know.. I know sometimes it's easier for people to CTB with another person for strength and reassurance, I would also like this, but I think for my own conscience and/or paranoia about getting caught/stopped, I will probably just CTB alone when it's time :/

I absolutely agree.
It was me who said I stood by the edge looking miserable for half an hour and nothing happened. It was twilight and I definitely looked dodgy but even on a cold evening in the dark there was the occasional dog walker or jogger walking past.
I have no clue why people act like you turn up there and chaplains jump on you if you even walk up near the cliff edge. I promise that's not true! So many people go there all the time like @Viov said!! There are several parking spots along the route of the cliffs between Birling Gap and Eastbourne.
I would totally recommend going to scope the place out before you ctb as it's a longish stretch of cliff.. you need the highest spot which I heard was between the two lighthouses .. You see the patrol cars every now and again going up and down the roads.. maybe they walk along by the cliff sometimes trying to spot people about to ctb but if you just tell them you are there waiting for the sunset to take pics or whatever then what can they do?

Agree. I was there late at night and a few hikers walked by and we said hello but that was it. They just went on their way, it was already dark. Patrol car went by but only on the road. As long as you don't leave your car in one of the car parks after night it's all good. They ll only check your reg and tey to find you if your car is there over night.

Yes! It's always been my backup plan (in case of emergency - close eyes and run towards edge). Providing you do your research and find the highest drop - it's pretty low-risk.

There are many walkers and nature enthusiasts but also plenty of teenagers and families just having a beautiful day out. I don't know why people keep spreading myths, I have been there many times so plan mt ctb, find best spot etc and just got to wait bow for lockdown to be lifted.
Exactly, it's a tourist spot after all, and was a very popular "day out" pre-covid (when travelling out of your area wasn't questioned).

There's numerous stories (even by the chaplains) of people CTB'ing there and they were powerless to stop them and do anything (like the guy who spent ages talking to one and then drove off the cliff). I think the biggest issue is that people don't plan ahead, they just turn up thinking they'll be a big sign saying "Optimum Jumping Spot Here", and their unpreparedness gives them away.

Not a reliable or painless way to go. N is the only way to do it.
Not sure why you say that. It's fast and guaranteed if done at the right spot.
