I find it hard to believe when you die, that's it. Maybe for a time period but I think people are kinda "predictable" and to me hints that we are simply "templates". Anyway, I know there's a lot of hope for reincarnation.. but what if you were given a shittier hand than the one you have now? Sure, you wouldn't know most likely, but it makes me hesitate... could you imagine having to be a baby all over again? Lol. I'm a procrastinator and that would be the ultimate procrastination lol.

If there's no big crunch and time goes on indefinitely then maybe you'll pop out of the vaccum for a very brief moment as a Boltzmann Brain billions of billions of years in the future.

Or you could end up in some primitive tribe drinking goat blood lol. I've read some articles say that you live in "waves" and that's why some people are on track in their life to do what they feel they need to, even if it isn't "going for gold" or a "wasted opportunity" to them. And some have already been through that life, and the stars align for them as if you have the answers to the test now.

Yea, but you could also be given a better hand.
You could be reborn in some distant future on some martian colony where genetic defects have been eliminated and capitalism has been replaced by a utopian community where all are cared for and euthanasia is legal (though it would hardly ever be used since suffering would have been much reduced).

Ultimately, I think all these worries about being reincarnated and worse off, or going to hell after death are manifestations of survival instinct. It's just primitive emotions from the brainstem manipulating the conscious rational mind so as not to ctb.

I had this fear as well. In my personal belief system, and in many other spiritual people's beliefs as well, we choose to incarnate. I don't believe in the "reincarnation trap", that we're forced to re-incarnate again and again against our will. I believe that our soul chooses to return to earth in order to learn lessons, heal karma, or fulfill some kind of specific purpose. The soul isn't afraid to suffer because its main goal is to gain growth and mastery through overcoming adversity and hard times. That's why we may choose to incarnate into painful, difficult, or tragic circumstances because we can glean a lot of insight, growth, and development through the overcoming of obstacles and pain.

I do believe we have the free will as humans to put an end to our lives regardless, though. We may choose to re-incarnate again in order to learn or experience something we didn't experience in the last lifetime, but I don't believe it's a forced occurrence. I believe the soul "maps out" the general trajectory of a person's life on earth, and then we exercise our human free-will to make various choices throughout our lives that serve to help us learn life lessons and experience different outcomes and directions based upon those choices

Funny thing, seeing this thread. The aspect of reincarnation has been my driving force for CTB. I'd give anything to get another chance at things. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll die by my own hands, so might as well be optimistic about it.

Anything could happen after death, and the possibilities are so endless that I cba to worry about it. Any life I get will end eventually so it hardly matters.

my thoughts contradict themselves since i think i'm just going to rot in the ground and my brother is happier in his afterlife.

i guess i just want to believe that other people can keep going and be happy, but my out is my out and no one's going to take that from me.

Yeah, that's the worry. I don't want to get a worse life. I was watching some videos on YT today about what mediums claim happens after death. One of them said because you broke your "soul contract" you have to start life again to finish it. Another medium kinda impled the same thing. I'm skeptical about there claims, but the what if sticks with you.

This isn't a worry for me. I'm goi g to die and reincarnate some day, whether by my own doing or something else, so why stress about my next life? It's going to happen regardless.

Yeah and I know it's probably irrational but the prospect of having to restart life (especially as a human) is terrifying to me.
Think about the climate change and how shitty our word is going to be in the upcoming decades... and then you're re-born in some third world country with no clean water, barely any food, there's probably WWIII going on and some mad man wants to launch the nukes.

Fuck this planet, seriously.

I agree with this idea. All these fears of hell, reincarnation and the like are manifestations of the survival instinct. It's just another trick the brain plays on you to discourage you from ctb. In truth, when we die, we become nothing. Just like we were nothing before birth. It's comforting to some but scary for others.

Not always. I'm okay with the prospect of eternal nothingness- I just don't personally believe that that's what happens

Terrified, besides my mental health/being lgbt/no one likes me, I have it pretty good. Im from a middle class family in Canada, I feel like at this stage i'm far more likely to get downgraded if I were to be reincarnated, and I can't even handle this life.

I don't like the idea of reincarnation. In truth, it was coined in ancient religions to abuse, intimidate and mentally enslave people. An example is in Hinduism where to date the untouchables are still beaten, raped and killed with impunity. It's used to create oppressive class systems or waste people's lives as they strive to reach 'enlightenment' before death. It reminds me of the non biblical teaching of 'hell'. In reality, the Bible and science actually agree on death, it is non existence. The dead know nothing and that's where we're all headed.

That's understandable. I just take what resonates with me intuitively and leave the rest behind

Reincarnation as you are describing has no scientific backup, as far as I know. Memory is gone when you die, so worrying about those things make little sense. I wouldn't believe you'd be a selfaware baby that carried with him/her the knowledge of the pre-deseased soul.
Any reincarnation in itself is contrary to what we know, the matter that makes ourselves gets scarred over the earth. The atoms that made once the memory in your brain are now far apart from each other, forming part of diferent things, non-organic or organic.

Closest we'll get to reincarnation will be saving our memory to an external thing, which I've heard something about this being done in Musk's company.

I guess we'll all find out someday as nobody here has officially died, so nobody has the answer.

And I was waiting for that to be a thing, reminds me of that movie "Transcendence".

I've never understood this type of reasoning. It's like saying that if you take off your protective suit in space you'll die, but since nobody has ever done it irl, nobody really knows. Science has proven that consciousness is a product of the brain and ends with brain death. However since none of us is yet to die, nobody really knows. Ugh, come on!

I mean it is what it is. It can't be answered.

I forgot the name of the movie but it was about the discovery that you go somewhere else when you die and people were committing suicide like crazy. If someone had the answer, we would never know it.

It can be answered, it HAS been answered. The answer is just too hard for most to accept. The movie is called 'The discovery'. I loved it, by the way. It was a great fantasy, if only it was true.

I mean from like personal experience, sometimes things can defy science. And we started as nothing and became something, could imply that going back to nothing might just be the start again.

Thank you, I didn't feel like googling it lol plus my eyes are burning from lack of sleep.

Hopefully soon I can sleep away into some nothingness though.
