I have never had any luck with any medications that are SSRI/SNRI and AP.
I have noticed that stimulants perk up my mood a bit and can make me a little functional.
I have had a psychiatrist say they thought I was ADHD in the past but I never got to do a test.
Amphetamines never actually got me high like other people which is partly why the doctor thought the above.
I want to ask my doctor if I can get on a trial of a stimulant as it does tend to help me more than anything else has.
I have a lot of experience with medical professionals and I am curious though of any idea other people may have that could help me tell doctor to try a trial.
My drug abuse history does seem to affect my chances as I have asked before.

My experience has been that the straighter I am with my doc, the better the conversation usually is.

It's tough to get a stimulant script, though, regardless of any other issues. If you've gotten a no before, I definitely would shoot straight or he/she will think you're nosing around with an ulterior motive.

It sucks because I could just buy speed if I wanted to get high.
I used to have a supa cool doc that I would be straight with but he retired and now I have this other weasel.

You could ask for a test to see if you have ADHD. Otherwise, at one point it was considered an option for treatment resistant depression but not many meds know about that. Maybe things have changed and it's no longer included in the more recent literature. You might get an asshole who tries to pretend you're making that up so if you're able to find something that refers to that to bring it that might make things easier. It's probably hard to get regardless.

I know that with a past history of abusing meds it can be hard to get a dr to believe us when we are being honest about why we want to try a certain med.

I have found, in the past, that only putting time between that history and the request builds the trust, at least that was with my dr. I had to prove that i was on the straight and narrow-

Maybe as @Lovequenel suggests, you could ask for that test for ADHD? If turned down, perhaps ask for a proper reason why not. Not angrily- just calmly, ask for the reason(s), be prepared to advocate for your needs-

But when asking for a med change, Any med change, i write a list of my symptoms- why i think i need the new med. why i feel the old med isn't working. What my research shows me that the options are for the potential new med... what the benefits would be of the new med.

I've done this and it has helped for me- though admittedly not with stimulants and not having abused the med i'm asking to have...

I find that most drs appreciate someone who can show they have put thought into their request- though some dislike people who look into meds and their uses so it's a fine line to walk.
