Discussion Any Christians considering suicide? How do you justify it?

Even though heaven is awesome, God calls us to live

Yes, heaven is awesome! No one understands the yearning for heaven more than the severely depressed or ill Christian. Some think, "So, why not go to heaven early? God will understand, right?" No. There are a lot of instructions for you in the Bible, and there is no place in the Bible where God calls you to kill yourself. Nowhere. God wants to heal you. God's position against suicide is clear.

God calls us to perseverance, not suicide: Killing yourself is an act of trying to force your will on God. If you've read the Bible, you'll know that forcing our will on God never works. While there is a lot of suffering in the Bible, God promises to be with us through it all. God calls us to continue and persevere through the hardships of life.

To be fair, there is no direct prohibition of it in The Bible itslef either. Only sophisticated theological doctrines based on the Bible and philosophy do that

I stopped trying to justify it and decided to do what i needed to and what is best for me. I have started to accept maybe all this was how it was meant to happen all along.

I was baptized in the Finnish church as a baby. I belong to the church even though I don't believe as the church teaches. I can't believe in eternal hell. Jehovah's Witnesses and Adventists have a more "human" theory that the lost is eternal non-existence. But there are things in both religions that I cannot accept

I know god says that you cant kill anyone (so that includes yourself) but he also says that if you regret what you did and ask for forgiveness he will forguve you and erase your past.
So, if you ctb by falling/hanging or any other method that you could regret just before you die and just after you did the thing but theres no way of turning back (say youre falling from a building and you still have time to truly *TRULY* regret what you did, you would still die but god would forgive you, ya'know?
That's what I believe in, but I would need to truly, honestly regret and ask for forgiveness. If I asked and I wasn't honest then I don't think it would work properly

So that means that killing is a sin, I know that.
But God forgives us, if you are honest, God will forgive us.

That means that everyone that shed blood and regretted it and asked God for forgiveness went to hell?
There are loads of other things that are forbidden, that are sins. I know that they are sins.
But that means that all the other sins commited won't be forgiven.
So that means jesus died for nothing?

Nothing can separate us from God, not even ourselves.

I also take issue with people who say that suicide is thwarting God's will. This is an all-knowing, all-powerful being who masterminded every single detail of creation and you're telling me I can circumvent his plans by killing myself? I don't think so.

So that means that killing is a sin, I know that.
But God forgives us, if you are honest, God will forgive us.

and yeah whats even his plan? didnt his plan was ruined when the great sin had been committed? and now its time to reap what humanity has sown
crimes wars illnesses and degeneracy are all products of human imperfection not his exact plan
so another suicide wont change anything

I'm not a Christian, but I do believe in God. When I was six, I thought God was calling me to be a vigilante and kill people at my discretion. When I was sixteen, I thought the goddess Lilith was calling me to make a sacrifice to her, and so I did. I think it's possible for God to exist for a number of reasons, including those two times. Anyway, I like to think that suicide is pretty serious to God, as it's the destruction of your body and life on earth. If God considers that precious, he'd probably be mad at whomever decided to destroy you, including yourself. I also think that God is merciful. At the end of the day, if your are severely depressed and guided by negative thoughts, then your decision to kill yourself will be one made solely along the lines and on the blocks of negative thinking. I don't think God will hold it against you if you got there by way of mental illness and unfortunate circumstances. I do think God would like us to continue living; I'm sure it would please him to know that our only source of hope is the thought of living well for God. That's just the way I look at it.

Most Christians these days do not consider suicide any worse a "grave sin" than any other "sin." The Christians who say anyone who kills themselves automatically go to hell don't know the Bible very well as it doesn't say that there. I have thought about it as I have made a mess of my life and wound up in a horrible place, physically and emotionally. I'm sure the God of the Bible would understand that and not condemn anyone for something that happened because they were in so much pain.

I don't justify it. I know its wrong. It's unfair that he forgives me for it, forgave me etc. i know for a fact I am covered, and it makes me want to pay him back someway.

I guess, if I killed myself, I am disrespecting my God-king but I've done such fucked up things that he still forgave me for. It's not a question of forgiveness but perseverance for him and his kingdom.

I know I am just a human. God is greater than all. Mental illness is real. And I struggle with it every damn day.

Jewish/Christian views are mixed, there's been a looooong debate about it. Its ambiguous.

If someone has a mental state where they ctb.....how does that work?
Then how far into a mental state does one have to be before it isnt an issue?

I can't that's the problem. It comes down to 'hoping for the best' that they'll be some understanding. I know its not a consideration for many on here but for some of us spiritual souls it is. It's a dilemma.
