  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

So a guy popular on a Facebook tinnitus page sadly committed suicide before Xmas his last post two days earlier was he was going the dentist and was worried it might cause his already angry tinnitus to worsen - whether it did or not I won't know but that's two people last year I heard of that this damn incurable condition has taken their lives

I suffer with Tinnitus and its really not nice, its a hard thing to explain to anyone what its like to have it too. I can see why dental work could have an effect on it.

Tinnitus sucks. I know Red Hot Chili Peppers' singer has this condition too. Since the 90s. I don't how he managed to cope with it.

Yeah, Tinnitus can be pretty nasty. I have Tinnitus since my early 20s (I'm in my 30s now) and it sounds like as if two old TVs are constantly turned on, all day, everyday. Somehow I can ignore it but I will hear it pretty loud if I think or read about Tinnitus.

i can totally see why, i don't remember how silence feels like, i got tinnitus when i was 10 so i've had it for over a decade and a half and only experienced quietness when i was a little kid.

it really sucks to live like this, and even though tinnitus isn't my main reason to CTB, it's really up there with the rest of reasons.

i'm not even hopping for a cure, it could be caused by hundreds of reasons and most of them are not even being studied, this is a really neglected disease.

I've had it for 17 years; got it after an severe ear infection. It was debilitating at first; now, it just sucks. (Sorry. That's not a positive post.)

I have a case of very extreme tinnitus, but it's ironically overshadowed by other debilitating symptoms.

Dentists contribute to many suicides around the globe. Conventional dentistry is dangerous, so I am not surprised his condition worsened after a visit to the dentist's office. It would be nice to know what procedures he had done at the dentist before his suicide. Suboptimal orthodontia can create extreme tinnitus. \ RIP to your friend, he's at peace now.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. :aw: Tinnitus really sucks and as a hobby musician, in addition to protecting my hands, body, and all, I also aim to protect my ears as well as I depend on my ears to be able to effective pursue my hobby in a meaningful way. I don't blame your friend for choosing to end it all, it's relatable and understandable.

What other symptoms do you have if I may ask? I can hardly imagine any condition overshadowing severe tinnitus besides being blind or paralyzed.

I'd rather if I had cancer personally.

Yes, it's awful and life destroying.
Nobody can see or hear the immense suffering it causes. And if that's not bad enough, doctors and other people downplay it like it's just a minor problem that doesn't need a cure/treatment.

I suffer from Meniere's Disease, which is Tinnitus + very painful Vertigo/Dizziness + Oscillopsia (I see things unstable and moving) 24h per fucking day.
Most cases of Meniere's Disease, are crises and attacks, my type is one of the most rarests in the world
I heard Van Gogh had the same disease and it drove him totally mad.

I had to hear from my own mother that I'm letting "bad energy" get the best of me, and I should just pretend the disease doesn't exist and try to live my life.

I am sorry you suffer from this. Invalidation on top of that is extremely painful as well. Hope you find some relief.

Constant noise can be torture. People who have tinnitus have to live in fear of it getting worse. There should be a cure for this condition. It should not be allowed to exist. Mine is not as bad as it was, but I know for some it can be unbearable.

I have great admiration for people who soldier through tinnitus. I had it for only 3 years ('14 to '17) so not as bad as some of you here, but it drove me absolutely insane! I've had ringing so loud I'd wake up from sleep in the middle of the night and then that'd be the end of sleep for that night. That's a vicious loop because poor sleep tends to worsen tinnitus. I couldn't focus at work, and could barely hear anything others said at my office over the din within.

Miraculously, it stopped as suddenly as it started, when I moved to another country.

Can they remove the eardrum or something invasive like that? I worry I'll get this one day with my headphone use. Tinnitus is such a difficult illness. My heart goes out to anyone suffering from this. None of us are immune. I didn't know the extent of it until I joined SS with how common it is here.
