I already have a huge list of big, medium and small reasons why I want to ctb. Now I have a new one.

The grocery store where I buy all my food went through a renovation recently. I went there and many of the things I used to buy regularly I can't buy anymore because you need to be about 182cm/6'0 to reach the top of the shelf, probably even taller if you want to reach the far side of the shelf (if you want to buy juice and there's only one juice left at the bottom). So now I can't buy the food, drinks, and stuff I always buy.

This is really stupid for kids too (where I live most kids go shopping alone or with schoolmates after school, yes even 7 year old ones) and elderly people and anyone else who isn't over 182cm/6'0.

Really makes me feel very discriminated against. I hope I can get my own car someday so I can go shopping at another shop which hopefully welcomes people less than 6'0 too. I hope I can get the car. Or that I just ctb and get to live in much better world. I really hate this world.

That's terrible. Sometimes people are incapable of considering the existence of others, who aren't like them. The best way to organize market shelves is by separating products by columns, not rows.

Is it the only grocery near you? What about delivery?

After being very ill - I had to be in a wheel chair for a few months "full time" and let me tell you - I really pity those having to go through being "different" everyday - like @stalewater said - healthy/tall people usually don't consider others while building/planing stuff.

It's been so difficult getting up the sidewalk from the street and back and everywhere seemed to be stairs instead of ramps.

I'm really sorry for your current situation @Manaaja - delivery for the things you can't reach seems like a good option.

I am over 6 feet tall and when I go the the grocery store I always help folks out because of the STUPID way/idea of having selves up in the rafters.

It always makes me sad for the folks and so darn angry at stores who do not THINK of everyone.

This past weekend when I went out I helped a older gentleman get soda down from way up and at another store I helped a younger lady get a box of crackers.

I have spoke to managers before about this STUPID way of merchandizing their wares and I either get blank looks or the usual "following corporate policy". Ya right.

You are a very valuable person here on SS and I send you lots of hugs and kind thoughts that you are a awesome soul.

Stay healthy and safe my friend,

Walter

Maybe someone from the staff can help you.
Or someone can take you to another shopping opportunity.

I can understand your anger - but don't let something like this drag you down.

I thought most people just did online shopping these days, or at least that is what people do in England. I think shops are scary and I avoid them at all costs. I'm sorry you are going through this, I understand it must be frustrating. I am not tall either. This world is a horrible place, I cannot wait to be free from it.

I am sorry about your situation, I cannot believe those people are so ignorant and don't think about the customers that have no possibility of reaching the products placed on the top shelves.
Is there any chance you could ask an employee to help you get the products you can't reach? Or maybe go to a different shop if there is one around you. Please don't get discouraged by this situation, I really hope things get solved somehow.
This is unbelievable man.

Agreed.

I forgot about delivery. I'd love to try it, but it costs money and I'm trying to save money for the car. If I get more income, I'll be sure to try it. There is one grocery store near the other, but its selection is much smaller, and everything costs a lot more. The juice which costs 1,5€ in one shop costs 2€ in there etc.

After being very ill - I had to be in a wheel chair for a few months "full time" and let me tell you - I really pity those having to go through being "different" everyday - like @stalewater said - healthy/tall people usually don't consider others while building/planing stuff.

I'm sorry you had to use a wheel chair. Very true. Many people don't consider others unless they themselves have been discriminated against which is stupid. Many times the nicest people are the ones who have gone through most hardships they say.

Can you even go up ramps by yourself if you use a wheelchair or do you need someone to push you? I wish every wheel chair user got one of those electrical advanced wheelchairs, but only rich can afford them.

I'd use delivery but it costs too much and I'm saving for a car. If I get a car, I can drive to another shop. I think meanwhile my only options are to either beg my mom to borrow a car and let me drive to another shop, or hope that the shop has an available chair/step/stool nearby and use it. Or try to survive without those foods/drinks/shampoos/etc. I do feel sorry for those who cannot access other shops.

Thank you! It's kind of you to help. I wish there were more people like you. I also wish my parents were tall, but even more so, I wish that everyone could just choose their own height. Or maybe if everyone was the exact same height.

Above poster reminded that even tall people can hurt their legs and have to use a wheelchair. So in a way, those high shelves are discriminating even against people are over 6'0.

Yep. Same with those damn post automates, I always fear my packet will be put into one of the top lockers where I can't reach them from. You know those automates that are located at shops, and you can order posts in them. It's cheaper than ordering posts at your house, and you don't have to be home when it comes. And you don't need to drive to a post office to get the packets. These: https://suuris.fi/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/smartposti.jpg

Thank you for helping people! People like you make the world a better place for everyone.

It's good that you have spoken to them about the issue, it's awful that they don't care. I wish there was a shop chain for people who are shorter than 6'0 or who use a wheelchair, if the shop chain got really popular and all the customers went there, it might encourage other shop chains to get better too.

Thank you! I hope you will stay safe too!

Maybe someone from the staff can help you.
Or someone can take you to another shopping opportunity.

I can understand your anger - but don't let something like this drag you down.
If it was an item or food or juice I only bought once a year and I didn't have severe social anxiety and asperger, then I might ask for help, but if I go to a shop three times a week, and if every single time I have to find a free worker (and there aren't any free workers because they are either managing the cash registers or in the storeroom), and ask them to travel around the shop to get food and drinks and shampoos and everything for me, that's ridiculous. Pure clownery. I refuse to bow down.

I don't have a car so I can't really choose my shop. I'm saving money for a car so I could go to another shop. There's one another shop near the other shop but everything in there costs a lot more. Like a juice which costs 1,5€ in one shop costs 2€ in that shop.

I thought most people just did online shopping these days, or at least that is what people do in England. I think shops are scary and I avoid them at all costs. I'm sorry you are going through this, I understand it must be frustrating. I am not tall either. This world is a horrible place, I cannot wait to be free from it.
I never buy food online, but I'd like to try once. The "shop for food online" option came only this year, and it's not available in many areas or shops and it costs a lot. I'd like to try the delivery once, but it costs a lot.

I can understand what you mean when you say they are scary. If I remember correctly, you said you have asperger too. Us aspergers see and experience the world differently, so all the noises, lights, shadows, people, kids, etc. can feel intimidating and stressing. And I have read that aspergers are really vulnerable to stress. At least I am. Even the tiniest stressor feels gigantic. I was an adult when I finally learnt to go to shop alone while all the kids went to shops alone at 7 years old (very safe country, so even small kids go to shops etc. alone). I agree. I feel like every week I discover another reason why this world sucks.

Thanks. It's odd that most of the workers are short girls yet they still put all the foods, shampoos, drinks etc. up high, and then don't care if only the tallest people can reach them.

If I go to a shop 3 times a week. And I have about ten products that are too high for me to reach. That would mean 30 x 52 weeks which would mean they'd have to get 1560 things for me a year. Every year ask 1560 times "Hey! Can someone help me get this and that?". I have asperger and severe social anxiety. That sounds like pure hell. Even asking once is embarrassing and humiliating, no way I'll do it 1560 times a year. Besides, all the workers are either at cash registers or in the storeroom, so usually there's not even anyone I could ask for help. And I seriously think the workers have better things to do than go through the whole shop three times a week to get stuff for me (and other people who are under 6'0.)

I already did get discouraged. My asperger and social anxiety and the fact that I already hate everything about this world and am suicidal makes every bad thing a million times worse. And I don't have a car so I can't go to another shop. I hope I can buy a car soon, I'd be able to go to a shop which isn't giants only.

It is unbelievable. My life is already so shitty in so many ways that every inconvenience feels like a mountain. Years ago I wrote a list of reasons why I want to ctb. Back then the list was about two pages long. This year it has doubled. It would be easier to say what isn't a reason to ctb. I wouldn't be surprised if they banned personal cars two months after I have bought my first car. This world is so bad.

Im not short (178cm) but sometimes I need to jump to grab something. Its a big silly tbh.

True. And you might hurt yourself jumping. And like one poster said, if you ever hurt your legs and end up in a wheelchair, then it wouldn't help if you were tall, you'd still be unable to get those things.

People are so stupid and illogical, always doing the opposite thing of what needs to be done. I jokingly wonder if all people were 250cm, would they make all shelves mini tiny so we'd have to lie on floors to be able to be able to access them...

Someone at the grocery store asked me to get something from the top shelf today. I was pretty overstimulated and didn't hear her for a while. But when I did I turned around to help her. I was only slightly taller than her but I just managed to grab the item she wanted. I'm happy that I look somewhat approachable and was able to help this lady. I didn't think too much of it but I guess small things like that are kinda important. I can understand that it would be difficult to ask for assistence every single time. That sucks. But I was glad the lady asked for my help and I was able to help her.

Thanks for helping her. I can understand not hearing. I'm used to those cash guys never asking questions so one time when they did ask something, I just stood there not realizing that they had asked something and while my asperger makes me hear a drop of a pencil from 100 meter away as if it was a giant tsunami of pianos, it also makes me completely incapable of hearing what someone is saying to me in busy and noisy environments because I can't focus.

I feel like I'm a total loser if I can't do everything by myself.

Do you have Amazon Prime? I don't know about the availability in your area but in my country I can use it for cheap delivery.

Hahaha! XD Maybe it should be a combination of a cane and a jumping stick; first I poke with the cane and if I can't reach, I'll use it to jump on top of the shelf.

No. Would be a good idea otherwise and I'd like to try that, but there's no Amazon in our country. I used to use the UK Amazon, but after Brexit I use the German one and German isn't exactly near.

Nice avatar, btw! The movie is really good. I just wish it was three times longer. Or maybe a prequel could fill that void. I want to see a baby Quasimodo play with Frollo and the Archdeacon.
