The article says nothing about the connection between America's violent crime rate and the presidency. And I couldn't find any such information in the article's sources. The graph implies that the presidency and its party has the most influence on the violent crime rates, yet I could not find a discussion on the connection. I feel like the graph designer just slapped two things together to solicit unsubstantiated conclusions from the viewers. At the very least, the author of the article shows little knowledge on the subject.

I think the digitalization of society along with its influence on American culture impacts the violent crime rates more than (Federal) legislation. Various technological and medical breakthroughs may also play a role in the rise and fall of violent crime rates. Anyway, it would be more interesting to see major milestones of (Federal) legislation and technological advances on the graph. But that would require the graph designer to do research on the subject.

Good looking graph though. Lower violent crime rates is good.
