thank you for being polite - i love civility in arguments !
I do not think that someone is highly intelligent just on the basis that they use this forum - myself included
actually this is not an argument: i agree that intelligence is not based only on thoughts and discussions on this forum (obviously) - it's exponentially much more complex - thank you for pointing it out!
but, my own observations and my own conclusions, from the many threads and replies over almost one year, fully support my initial statement
If an individual can express and articulate their beliefs very well then this (might) be a consequence of their intelligence, and not because they happen to hold a pro-choice stance
brilliant ! (you are very articulate :)
I am unsure if I have misunderstood your initial post
my initial assessment is way too imprecise and too generalized - my fault
but your comment allows me to get to my hidden reasoning, which is very important, and not at all a compliment to humanity:
what i consider intelligence:
- main difference between humans and the rest of the species is
self-awareness
(and other not-so-obvious differences)
how many other animals have the power to commit suicide, including the dinosaurs
how many other animals have the power to suffer - at our level?
and here i'm referring to our intellectual suffering (philosophical, morality, metaphysics, etc)
self-awareness and human intelligence is the worst curse of nature - the worst mistake in existence. our arrogance about intelligence hides the depths of potential misery…
most probably, it will end in self-destruction, because we're not able to handle the constant sufferings, and the payout is almost inexistent
so back to my initial statement: "humanity is extremely intelligent"
all humans are extremely intelligent (but clearly there are some obvious exceptions, like people that are not able to function properly in day to day life, dementia, etc)
ps. thank you for your comment!
pps.
This post is really, really not meant in a malicious or insulting way.
don't worry: it's very obvious that you never mean to insult anyone!
It should be called education and promotion
i really, really like the first one:
education and encouragement (but 'promotion' has the same effect)
I also didn't want to give the impression that illiterate people are stupid.
i know exactly what you meant, and i know you didn't want to offend anyone!
however,
all your points are still valid and i agree with all of them
many of them are actually quite clever to manage their everyday life. They learn texts by heart, mentally photograph signs and plans, invent their own signs, tricks and excuses to cope with situations. They seek help from others. In this way, at least 57 percent manage to pursue gainful employment. Many are unskilled workers in construction or other areas. Every fourth cook, painter or truck driver is functionally illiterate.
my point exactly!
don't worry about clarifying your statements - all people on this forum are smart enough to understand your concerns!
"The average IQ is falling - humanity is becoming more and more stupid."
i don't agree with that title - i consider it a very poor choice of words
i haven't read the article yet, but i think they're trying to say that many people refuse to use their intelligence, for different reasons (ignorance, close-mindedness, indoctrination, rigidity, etc)
ps. sorry, i don't speak german (and i'm too lazy to use google translate, but i'm very confident in my initial statement :)
