Title pretty much says it, a Dutch man was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for selling what is probably SN (The media just calls it substance X) along with anti-emetics. He was part of the Dutch organisation "Coöperatie Laatste Wil", an activist group that seeks legalisation of assisting in suicide. They started a case against the state to try to legalise it, but were ruled against by the Dutch courts last year, and assisting in suicide by giving access to methods remains illegal in the Netherlands.

If you can read Dutch, here's an article about the situation: https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2023/07/1...5-jaar-cel-voor-verstrekken-middel-x-a4170002

SN is legal to own, but he was selling it with the express purpose of letting people end their lives, which is illegal in the Netherlands. He also sold anti-emetics with it, which is illegal because he isn't qualified to sell medicine.

That is just so horrible, it's truly such a disgusting world we exist in where doing the compassionate thing of providing ways to reliably escape from all the suffering is a crime. The true criminal thing is how assisted suicide isn't legalised and how people are expected to be prisoners to this existence until they die anyway, the right to die in peace should be a human right.

It is unfortunate that individuals with good intentions find themselves facing legal consequences for assisting those who are in dire need.

This is terrible. Its a shame how pro-lifers deny us of the privilege to die in peace and instead force us to use dangerous and painful methods. People should be allowed to end their lives, it is their lives so i don't know why they can't do with it what they please. I don't know why people feel that other people's lives are their responsibility and completely disregard the problems they have to face on a daily basis and make them suffer instead. This world is terrible, people think they're saving people by banning peaceful methods but its just stressing people more to the point that there will be a lower suicide death rate BUT more disabled people (people who use hanging or jumping)

I guess i should buy SN and store it while it's still legal.
I hate it that the whole "my body my choice" thing is widely accepted and even supported by the society and govs, but the act to end our own life, the ultimate personal right, is restricted.

You could be right, I hadn't read the NOS article on it. I just assumed it was SN since it's the most commonly discussed here and all the descriptions seemed to match it.

That was mentioned earlier in this thread. Obviously he sold it suicidal people and their intention was to kill themselves and that obviously could be "proven" assisting someone in suicide is illegal. so that's the crucial point here.

Edit: I hate how difficult it is to find a peaceful exit from this world!

yes i agree with you the only possible country in which you could do that is switzerland where assisted suicide is legal and there are even clinict that do it

DutchNews coverage - they're referring to "substance x" as "suicide powder".

Judges in Den Bosch have jailed the man who supplied so-called suicide powder to at least 10 people who killed themselves, saying he had harmed the value of human life.

The court ruled that Alex S from Eindhoven had been selling the powder, named in court as "substance X" for three years, including instructions for its use.

He was jailed for 3.5 years, with 18 months suspended. The jail term is less than the four years demanded by the public prosecutor because of the length of the trial and his own personal circumstances.

S, 29, had taken other people's lives far too lightly over a three-year period, the court said. "He asked no questions and delivered as required. In doing so, the accused treated the lives of others very lightly and harmed the value of human life in general," the court said in a summary. The full ruling will be published later.
S initially bought the powder because he was contemplating suicide himself because of medical problems, he told a court in Den Bosch last month.

When he discovered it could be easily obtained from the internet he came into contact with members of the Coöperatie Laatste Wil (CLW), which campaigns for the right to die and who wanted to buy it.

Over a three-year period, he made up 1,600 doses of "substance X" comprising four times the lethal amount, put the doses in a box and posted them out for €45 per batch.

The unnamed powder is used in the chemical industry. When ingested it can take up to 40 hours to die, experts have said. Selling the powder is not an offence in itself, unless the purpose is to help someone take their own life. Under Dutch law, it is illegal to help someone to die, unless a doctor acting under the strict terms of euthanasia legislation.

**40 hours to die in the absolute worst case scenarios ie, person is found MANY hours after, brought to hospital or EMS is called, methylene blue is administered and doesn't produce the desired result, person is worked on but ultimately succumbs.** (this is NOT part of the original article as differentiated by the asterisks and non-italicized words - this was/is my opinion upon reading the article, which is italicized. My apologies for the confusion!)

IMG 9505

His lawyer has said he should be acquitted because the court has not proved that the people who died after consuming the powder obtained it from him.

The court also said that the public prosecutor's claim that S had lived "royally" from his earnings was unfounded.

Damm, they'll stop at nothing to restrict SN as a method and yet the mental health system is fucked in most places and many people come out no better than when they went in, let alone how shit this world is where people have to even come to a point of taking thier lives like this. Take up to 40 hours to die is such a lie though, if it is SN then it only takes at most, an hour or two and maybe more hours for the most extreme cases of complications, I feel like 40 hours is too long for someone to have any realistic chance of survival at that point.

It's truly reflective of how messed up and unfair of a world is where you have to go through so much effort to even find a suitable method that is relatively peaceful.

SA has no known antidote so it is SN, the fact M-blue is mentioned gives it away.

It's SA that he was selling. SA is also known as Substance X or Middel X, you can check at the PPH.

It's unfortunate that for helping people to exercise their rights, he has to go to jail.

There is no mention of MB anywhere in any of the articles, and the court summary states there is no antidote. Middel X is SA.

I added the bit about MB as an aside, notated with an asterisk.

Just to be clear, original article does not mention MB - I added that, with an asterisk and w/out italics to differentiate.

I have amended the comment so it is hopefully clear that bit was/is my opinion and impression upon reading entire article, which remains italicized.

My apologies for the confusion!

I have read a story about someone who had the police at their door because they ordered SN and Canadian police or whatzver warned Dutch police so they paid him a visit and he had to give the SN to the police.

But legally they are not allowed to take it if you refuse then? Can you just simply say no? Since it's legal to have?

I swear they want to force us to stay here so they keep getting our tax money. What other reason is there for them to make such a stink about it? If you're over a certain age, it should be your decision and if you decide to ctb, there should be safe methods to do it.
