People working at the University of Virginia have found that the patients with more oxygen in their brains and on fewer drugs are more likely to experience an NDE. This goes against the prevailing theory that NDE's are the result of a dying brain or are hopped up on drugs. Though some have experienced NDE's when there was no detectable brain activity at all. Some that have experience NDE's are able to tell about things that happened outside of their room that they couldn't have known if they did not actually leave their body. Also, people that experience NDE's report that the experience was more real than this existence. My theory is that the "afterlife" is just us experiencing the last moments of our subconscious. I read a bunch of NDEs and people described that time in their brain moved slower than in real life. There's also been studies on the brain and how there's still some brain function right after a persons death. I think those couple of seconds or minutes will be our "afterlife". In reality it's only a short period of time but in our brain it might feel like an eternity. I think what that afterlife will look like is based on your actions from this life and how it's affected your subconscious. For example if you've done super bad things and have been a very mean person to others your subconscious mind may be a not very nice place. Those who had NDEs from committing suicide still saw nice things and felt good. There was one man who I think did some really shady and bad stuff he saw some scary shit.
There is also no explanation or even a reasonable hypothesis regarding how a brain could create consciousness ... matter itself would need to be conscious to some extent which would suggest that consciousness is one of the primary substances of the universe. This was one reason for me to join this forum: Hear the opinions on this subject from people in a similar situation.
My experience in this life is, that all what we do has consequences for our future. The idea that I design my own afterlife is not very encouraging in this context. Only when I know, that the probability of any kind of afterlife is almost zero I can be sure that I will not go to hell for my suicide. For this purpose I studied the latest findings in brain research and the result is: There are no indications that consciousness or subconsciousness can exist without a living brain.
Interesting! Are you still around? I would really like to hear some of your stories. The afterlife has always fascinated me.
I like to think the experience is like taking psychedelics etc at the beginning of death. Doesn't the brain produce high amounts of DMT prior to death? Is this the gateway to the next dimension?
I can't go with the theory that there is nothing after death - to me, it just doesn't make sense.
We know energy cannot be destroyed, only transferred. Like the caterpillar to the butterfly.
I believe we return to a higher state of consciousness before we make our next journey.
I am a fan of the book, A wanderer in the spirit lands. It's really good, you can download it for free.
I also read the book - Vistas of Infinity, how to enjoy life when you're dead.
The first book was written in the 1800's and vistas was written more recently.
Both books have very similar accounts and I find are very connected in their experiences.
The first book was claimed to be written by a ghost through a medium and the second was written by a man who frequently has OBE's for his own understanding. Truly fascinating!
I also worked in healthcare all my life, mainly dealing in palliative care. Some of the accounts there have been fascinating. I've seen people talk to deceased relatives and telling them they're coming to meet them.
I've experienced paranormal phenomenon after death with objects moving, alarm bells going off in the deceased persons room when they never used the alarm bell in the first place..
Clocks spinning like crazy, seeing shadowy figures waiting for their dinner at the dinner table (3am..) yup.
It's truly fascinating and I just want to know more..
I want to commit suicide but I am concerned about what's on the other side including the possibility of hell, mainly because I experienced living in a haunted house. There was some sort of beast that appeared in audio form where I could hear it breathing, it revealed itself one day when I was in high school home alone because I missed the bus. I found out laTer that it had also terrorized my mother and one of my sisters. We found out that my father had been doing voodoo (black magic/ceremonies) so he must of pulled it out of the spiritual realm. To make a long story short, ever since that traumatizing experience of paranormal activity, and hearing a beast with 8ft wide lungs breathing, I've been scared to go to the oTher side by suicide. I'm thinking that monster had to come from somewhere, maybe hell? I don't want to see it on the other side, or anything like it, but I'm suffering so much for so long I want to CBT anyway. I hate that I have this fear, I probably would have done it a long time ago. What will happen in the afterlife. Please tell me im not going to hell for suicide
