This would be an above ground SEPTA train, obviously a little bit a way from a station. It's really the only method available to me so don't try to dissuade me with stuff about how it would affect the conductor. I don't have any other options.

Why not? Remember: there's a real person driving that train. You're forcing the train driver to be your bus. He doesn't want to be in that position, even if he's not a pro-lifer. He doesn't want to be an instrument of your death. He just wants to drive his route, then leave for the day, get home, drink a beer, and go to bed. At best, you'll ruin his day. At worst, you'll give him PTSD for life. We're an ethical community. So if you catch the bus, you gotta do it ethically, without involving an unwilling participant. Find another method.
The only exception to the above is if a rail line runs in an open-cut trench, and the bus-catcher "accidentally" fell off an overpass onto the tracks. Then the driver can tell himself that person was already dead on the tracks by the time his train hit them. You're giving the driver plausible deniability, to himself, first and foremost. Hitting a dead body is merely disrespectful. Hitting a living person is akin to murder.

If anyone was curious, I found that in 2017, there were 266 fatalities from 300 attempts, a rate of around of 89%. Pretty good odds. People died anywhere from walking with their backs to a train to lying down on the tracks.

There is no telling how this could affect the driver psychologically. Whether it's the sight, the blame, or just knowing it happened. I'll always be against this method of suicide.
Edit: I'm leaving this up even though I see you stated "don't try to dissuade me with stuff about how it would affect the conductor". Again, it could create PTSD from this incident that could last a lifetime.

As others mentioned the best advice is don't. My mate jumped in front of a truck, which is the same thing. It's an easy way to turn people that loved you your whole life into hating you at your funeral. "He seemed like such a decent person but turned out he was a truly heartless prick, good riddance" is the general sense. I don't think the driver has worked since.

I was just saying that CTB should be ethically done. What kind of rail line is it? Grade-level lines (same level as city streets, with railroad crossings) are the biggest problem, because you have no choice but to force the driver to be an instrument of your death. Are there any lines that run in an open-cut trench, with walkable overpasses? Those lines still let you CTB without forcing the driver to actively put you on the bus. He can tell himself that it whoever he hit was already dead at the time of the train collision. This way, you CTB and the driver comes away psychologically unharmed, other than legal paperwork he might have to fill out. That's a HUGE difference from him hitting someone who he saw jump in front of his train.
Lines running on an embankment or trestle are generally inaccessible to pedestrians, so I'm not including those in the discussion. Plus, pedestrian-to-train collisions on them are the same as on grade-level lines, anyway. If the line is electrical, I read about where a person stood barefoot on the rail and touched the overhead wire with a metal broomstick; the voltage is usually high enough to CTB, and it doesn't matter how the line runs, provided it's accessible to pedestrians.
No No No No! The risk of being permanetly maimed is very high and i am not saying this lightly. There is also legal ramifications as well depending the laws of your country .
Remember the media will always report a successful sucide espically if the person is young and pretty. This is to sell stories , give zealous grieving families a platform to argue for change in the law or promote some form censorship rather than come to terms with thier loved ones death.
The media tend not report the thousands of people who fail at sucide or those that are permanetly maimed by it . Due to stigma of sucide and espically a failed one.
Read the story of Kristen Anderson she lost both legs due to usin the train method
Another story here in england helen galsworthy threw hereself in front of a train lost both legs. There many stories like this we dont hear in the media
Legal ramifications: You going in to the train line is a form of tresspassing which is a criminal offence.
In 2009 in the UK a 26 year old man called micheal finnegan was charged by the police for threatining to jump off a railway bridge. He ended up getting fined by the courts
If the police catch you then it is game over
Anything can go wrong
1) Your clothing you get caught in the train
2) The train could just break down it happens
Weird things can happen in this world
my grampa walked in front of a lorry
he always used to say he wanted to go instantly he used to snap his fingers when he said that.
a friend had stepped off the edge to the train rails
they both went instantly
that what the medics said..
it was messy but for them it wasnt

Don't do it, this is probably one of the most selfish ways to choose and also if you don't ctb you're bound to have such injuries that you won't get a second chance.
I know it doesn't seem like a priority in moments of pure darkness but think about the driver who will be traumatized for life, ptsd etc. everyone on the train will be late. Not to mention the rescuers that have to clean up the mess.
Everyone has the right to choose of course but there are way better ways.

Actually, you do have another option. That is to postpone your attempt until you find another method which does not unfairly traumatise someone.
This forum is very open-minded and has a wide range of opinions on lots of topcs. However, there are very few topics which unite users more than the justified contempt for people who would choose to massively traumatise someone else and unfairly make them feel responsible for a death.
Have you had a look through the Resource Compendium near the top of the forum? There are miles of informative links in there, and reading them can help you settle on a method.
