In the book Five Last Acts - The Exit Path the author Chris Docker writes that jumping from ten stories is 100 percent successful if you want to commit suicide. But the method jumping is not foolproof - humans have survived falls from great heights. For example, a woman survived a fall from the 13th floor, became paralyzed with severe pain and then went to Switzerland for physician-assisted suicide.

A window cleaner fell from a skyscraper in New York and survived. Alcides Moreno and his brother Edgar set out to clean the windows of the 47-floor luxury Solow Tower building in Manhattan´s Upper East side on the morning of 7 December 2007.

They took the lift up to the roof of the house and then they went out on the roof. When they climbed out to the washing platform the cables holding it in place slipped from their attachment point and both men fell from the house by accident.

Edgar Moreno died of the fall but Alcides survived; he ended up in hospital with injuries to his brain, spinal column, chest and abdomen, fractures to his ribs, right arm and both legs. He underwent numerous operations, including having a catheter inserted in his brain to reduce swelling. He received 24 pints of blood. Alcides Moreno woke up after three weeks in a coma. The doctor called him a miracle.

The highest a person ever survived a fall was when a plane broke up while flying: 33,000 ft.

I jumped from a 75 ft bridge and landed in the water and survived. I did that when I was a teenager, and in hindsight I should've known better. I thought I would die because I heard from a movie that jumping 50+ feet over the water is the same as hitting concrete and I genuinely thought I would die from the height just from impact. Turns out that I would've just drowned, had I not been spotted by coast guard. All I got from that was 2 weeks in a mental hospital, no injuries though at least.

A rather snide, condescending online "therapist" tells people in her blog that if they really wanted to die, they could do so easily. She says they have innumerable opportunities to die, so that they're still alive is proof they do NOT in fact want to die. Stories like the ones you've shared here show otherwise. Thanks for sharing.

you aint gonna go above 99.9% certainty with any one method alone

little excerpt from wikipedia about golden gate bridge. at the highest point it's 227m tall

The fatality rate of jumping is roughly 98%. As of July 2013, only 34 people are known to have survived the jump.[3] Those who do survive strike the water feet-first and at a slight angle, although individuals may still sustain broken bones or internal injuries.

I don't want to encourage or discourage anyone from this method but jumping is a pretty reliable method if done from a very high height. I'm very sorry a lot of people have suffered and survived falls because they did not jump from a high enough distance. We never want people to suffer more than they already are. People unfortunately believe they can jump from 10 stories and it's a sure thing when it's not. The window washer who survived I believe held onto the metal platform they were standing on. Which would have considerably reduced his speed. Every story I've ever read about high fall survivers had something unusual or extraordinary about what happened that saved their life. Falling out of an airplane is a 99.9 percent chance of death probably. Just as reliable as shotgun to the brainstem. In Hong Kong, I have read that jumping is one of the most common and effective methods of suicide, Just as guns are in the USA. With all that said, jumping from a building might pose a danger to those below. And perhaps there are better methods available to most people. But jumping is not necessarily an unreliable method.

I hope you're right. I'm terrified of heights so could never approach this method, but I really like your comment, "We never want people to suffer more than they already are."

I think she's right. I should have been gone in March, yet here I am. Every day and night same nightmare - I can't kill myself. Most people who commit suicide just do it. They don't waste time searching the internet and looking for a method.

well death is the cure-all so she might be onto something

but seriously, shock therapy (or maybe some kind of reverse psychology therapy) might work but when you're working with an individual 1 on 1. posting such things online.. well. that's no real therapist.

I would probably never get the courage for jumping anyway. It is not my preferred method. Getting damage from an attempt is the thing that scares me. The article shows that it is really difficult to take our lives. I wish it was easier. We all deserve the option of euthanasia.

I would never dare to jump either. Why some people die of the fall but not others probably depends on how they land on the ground or on the water. Yeah, we all deserve a peaceful death of euthanasia.

Such stories are scary to me, reasons i don't go for fall is that i imagine what results could be, I'm mad really that people aren't provided peaceful ways to exist, there is no need method to be painful but our society is what's its all about, restrict suicide methods, hide objects that could hurt you, this is what I'm left with and many others, To go through painful and uncertain methods, if one is suicidal they're defected, they don't think clearly, they need treatment with positivity bullshit, shaming that those left behind will suffer, This is our life, we suffer more trying to exit suffering

If you look hard enough you'll find people (even a bunch of people) dying in such ways.

- person dies of too much water
- person dies from too much wanking
- person dies from breathing wrong
- person dies by getting out of bed quickly.

The list goes on of endless stories how people die.

every method, somebody on here will find something wrong with it lol. Such conversations like this ain't worth having tbh
Go with rope if it's a desperation. Go with it before you talk yourself out of it after people comment/post to somehow change your mind and give you 1001 reasons to why it fails lol

Yep, if you're going to use a method, don't research cases of failure. Get an idea as to the most effective methods, pick one, then just go through with it.
Otherwise you'll have "what if x or y happens" increasing your SI.

Choose a super lethal method like full suspension in a remote area and rest in peace, friend.

Not saying that jumping is a good method or one I would choose, but I want to point out that one would be much more likely to die from a fall if that is the intention rather than an accident, as there are ways to guarantee death such as going headfirst.
