This came to me the other day when I was on one of my walks.

I had realized ive been walking a minimum of 3 miles every single day, even on my bad days, even when I had cramps or was having my period, I stuck through it.

Keep reading and you'll see how this ties into things.

I had recalled from a time when I had bad anxiety that the most common advice given was to "just breathe," but that didn't always work. And why? Because it wasn't associated with a state of calmness.

I remember in a video I had watched the person said that breathing exercises would only work if you practice it well BEFORE you're anxious.

Back to walking.

When I thought of that it felt like when a key clicks perfectly into place.

I was trying to understand how I've gone a whole month and a week without having a *horrible* day. I've had bad days, just like anyone, but every since new years I've felt great and my bad mood had only stayed for 3 days and has been gone.

Why was I happy? Content? Nothing has really changed in my situation since than.

And that is true, but slowly, *I've* been changing.

For almost 3 weeks now I've gotten back into sorts of physical activity after barely taking a walk for about 6 months.

The thing is, I had started this positive habit far before I had my bad day, and when I did it was far less intense.

Keeping this streak has kept me from the edge, and it's the same with the referenced breathing exercises.

To keep ourselves from getting into ruts, we need to practice our coping skills/ hobbies often, though in my experience I recommend daily.

You might not have the motivation now, but when you are feeling better that is the prime time to challenge yourself.

And that's why I enjoy walking.

Keeping the streak also motivates me immensely.

Around six months ago I had a streak on Duolingo for 200+ days, it really sucked when I broke it, but I'm going to use it as an example that anyone can keep a streak of some kind especially as I see myself as rather lazy.

Seriously, if I can do it so can you!

It can be anything.

I just really felt urged to share this, and I'm sure I could have made it shorter but if you've gotten to this point I hope you've understood what I've said.

You got this ๐Ÿ˜

I totally agree with what you say, physical exercise like walking or lifting your old weights in your room makes you feel better. In fact, I stopped taking antidepressants because I realized that exercise is much better, I managed to lose 25 kilos and return to my normal weight and also by lifting weights so many days in my room I got more strength especially in my arms and legs. But I have been feeling so depressed for many months that I can't do any of that again. I feel like my mind always tells me... you're not going to be able to change anything... just feel better that day and the next day in the same damned hole with no chance of escape.
