Hi everyone

I never thought I would be posting in a forum like this as I was never the suicidal type, in fact I used to love life but since becoming a victim of several botched surgeries my world around me came crashing down. As a result of this, I am no longer living the life I once had, instead I am just existing searching for a solution to my problem.

I am not looking for sympathy here as I'm sure some might say that this is all my fault as these were elective surgeries but considering I had been misled my surgeons who were obligated to provide a duty of care into having the surgeries in the first place, I feel that I am more of a victim. In some way I feel like an imposter on here as I feel sorry for those with medical conditions or with severe mental health but still what has happened to me is giving more thoughts of suicide and feel anyone that is really suffering in life deserves to have the option to choose to end their life.

I no longer go out socializing, I have chosen to no longer see old friends and I rarely attend family events. I spend most days alone and in doors as this is where I feel most at peace apart from some daily outdoor exercise. I go to work still every day and that's all I do. I spend most of time now searching for ways to correct the botched surgeries I had by going for consultations with surgeons who have good feedback but there is only so much that can be corrected, and, in some cases, it has only made matters worse for some people, so I am being very cautious.

I don't know what the future holds for me, but I don't see it getting any better but worse and I don't think I can spend the rest of my life being alone and locked away. I am now taking steps to find a peaceful way to end my life (if that is even possible) should and when the time comes. I have already looked into going to Dignitas, but I do not qualify for this as I am not dying from anything though some days, I wish I was. I've already read up a few ideas in The Peaceful Pill handbook but am looking for other ideas.

Jane

Hi. Sad story. There is not only Dignitas in Switzerland. There are 3 other VAD associations in Switzerland (6 in total) that accept applications from foreigners. The least complicated and most liberal association is Pegasos. To apply to Pegasos you don't have to be ill at all, but you do have to be a certain age (not in the 20th or 30th.). "as I am not dying from anything though some days" This is not necessary for any of the associations.

Thank you for this. I didn't know about Pegasos and have now joined them. This gives me hope.

It sounds really awful being in that situation and it is terrible how in this life so many things can go wrong. Assisted dying does sound like the best way to go and I can imagine that it must be a relief for those able to go to Pegasos. I hope that you find what you are looking for, I wish you the best with what you are doing.

Age is not important. If the person applying has a terminal illness or physical condition severely impacting quality of life they will be approved. They don't have to be 40 to apply.

Age is important when you are in full health. Your application will not be approved when you are in the 20th or 30th, unless you are terminally ill. But you don´t have to be ill at all, when you are in a certain age (applies only to Pegasos). That makes the difference.

As far as I understand no_more_pain72 has serious health problems and is probably in a certain age. So I guess no_more_pain72 should have a chance to be approved at Pegasos.

Hi, I agree with befree. Im sorry for your suffering. If you have some health concerns like pain condition etc. due to surgery theres a chance with pegasos. The more severe the health issue and suffering is the better the chance.

Thank you, Befree, I appreciate your kind and relevant contribution here. The notion of Pegasos being the least complicated and most liberal association intrigues me. It encouraged me to read their website but now more questions are emerging. Could you provide more information about Pegasos and why you feel that they are the most liberal?

I know all the associations, know how they work and have been helping people apply (free of charge) for about 6 years. So it's not a feeling, it's experience with the individual cases. If you decide to apply ask yourself:

Would I qualify ? Do I have the money (at least CHF10.000,-) ? Can I afford to lose at least CHF1.500,- if I get rejected ? Do I have all the required documents and medical records ? Am I able to travel ? Do I have someone to accompany me to identify me after death ?
