A few years ago I wrote a thread about why "confidentiality is overrated" and gives a false sense of security (and privacy). In that thread I talked about how the concept of confidentiality doesn't really give as much privacy and security for someone as they believe to be. While my thread is more focused on interactions with the mental health system, the same could be said about interactions with people and society in general.

Anyways, I found a video that pretty much shares the same sentiment as my previous thread I wrote years ago. Here is the video below:

Let me know your thoughts on it.

I just watched it and I understand what he's saying. I don't feel like I can trust anyone despite wanting to, I knew it was a lost cause but I held up hope. I remember a few months back trying to improve myself and become that friend and I've just kind of given up on it. I don't need to become the person I need I just need one.

I've had a few times where I thought everything was confidential and then I get snitched on. Sometimes I wish I didn't need to hide my true self. I do agree with what this person is saying and I think I can relate pretty well. Not many people criticize how confidentiality and privacy work. I feel like it's a needed portion of respect and a lot of people just ignore it.

The only person you can really be honest and open to is yourself, really. There are always obstacles to being truthful to others, wether it's society or personal safety (like with the mental institution), so... we always are a mirror shard of ourselves, some true, some distorted so strongly it's hard to even call it your true self. And it sucks that it's a game we all are forced to play without our consent...

Privacy in 21st century is a joke too. Constantly watched and judged, personal info is always gathered and sold, we're just some quick cash for the mighty and a topic to gossip for lesser. It's like humanity is just a machine for profit and making blanks, everyone must take their place and be just like the others, and bring tons of money, so "don't dare to complain or you'll be put in your place"

...Probably went on a weird tangent there, so I apologize if it's just rambling

You are right. Therapy is useless because you can't say anything important without being locked up and abused in a psych ward. Talking to others is useless because they will more often than not tell others or the police. The idea that suicidal people are on a timer and need to be contained against their will for their own safety is a devastating issue of trust. The way suicidal people are thought of and treated is so bad that I will have to strongly recommend to a suicidal person that they don't tell anyone. Moreover, the attitude that suicidal people are deranged and need fixing as soon as possible is just as harmful. There is nothing wrong with suicide or suicidal thoughts, in fact they are often a logical response to the horrors of this world and saying otherwise is just gaslighting. I guess that, beneath the surface, modern views on suicide haven't changed since ancient times.
