Help A good reason for gun

Hi!
I had an accident with my car like 2 months ago and a passerby helped me and even fixed my car and I found out he is a criminal and he has some illegal guns in his house.

I really wanna talk to him and buy a gun from him or something but I'm scared he's gonna think I'm informer or something cause that's a weird request after we haven't talk for couple of months.

You have any ideas? Some excuse that will sound valid?

Kinda depends on what the gun is I suppose? But I guess you could say.... You want to get into target shooting or something similar.

Its a pistol that I want but I wanna buy not loan it so target shooting might not be the best option

idk where you live, but in many countries you can't get a gut when you have a criminal record. So you can say that you have a record and you want it for personal defense.

Did he tell you in a "hey if you ever need one" way or "I'm billy bad ass" way. Seems odd he'd just offer that up to a stranger especially if they are illegal. I'm in the US so take that into account. I've sold a bunch of guns legally and still took precautions on who was buying them, still waiting to hear from cops due to one guy getting domestic violence charge years ago (gun wasn't used but they take them for a while). I doubt he'd care what you use it for unless some heist or murder that would be investigated. He could also rat you out to avoid some other charge "hey drop the drug charge cause i know a guy....". If you are certain to do this I think the longet it's in your pissession the more risk you take.

It was longer than that he helped me fix my car for like 5-6 hours the whole front was damaged so we had a long conversation.

He saw some cops when we fixed the car and he seems like he hates them so we talked about it and then he told me they searched his house and he had to hide his pistol and m16.

I don't think it was a try to impress or Something tho
