hey sasu, is a 420 feet drop into a canyon enough to guarantee death?
The is a bridge close to my house, and every person who has jumped from it has died, no one has survived. but, just want some opinions.
for perspective, that's a 35 story building. and the statue of liberty is 100 feet shorter than this bridge.

how so? it's a pretty view, and I'd do it at night anyway. likely heavily sedated.
Unfortunately, they installed a 9 foot suicide barrier in 2012, but I am pretty sure I can just scale it, or, enter from the beginning of the bridge. a few people still managed to jump after the barrier was placed.

That's my plan too. It's hard to get over the fear of when you look down from the edge though. Have you been on a fair ride the goes down real quick? I imagine that dropping feeling you feel combined with the intense fear would be terrible. I'm really scared aren't you? Still i will do it. I pray I don't live

I wish you the absolute best on whatever you decide and am sorry that life has brought you to this decision. To answer your question, I simply don't see how one can survive a 400 foot fall into a hard rock canyon. The only hesitancy I have with this method is that one has to be very clear in their motivation for suicide. For people like me who really don't want to live (but aren't crazy about dying), I am positive I will regret it the second I let go, (people who have survived attempts from the Golden Gate Bridge echo this sentiment).... and according to the internet, at 400 feet, there is almost 5 seconds from release to impact.

Of course once a person lets go, motivation is no longer an issue. The result is the same.

Yes, I am scared. but I'm nearly positive I won't live. I don't see how I could. and i think i would hit the bottom within 8-10 seconds? just a guess. Also, I have heard that you black out on the way down.

5 seconds is kind of better than I thought. I thought 8-10. I know with 100% certainty that I want to die. I've been thinking about it for years and years and years and I have tried to live better and with less depression, but I can't. I've tried therapy, every single med under the sun including out of pocket for Ketimine, every single drug available, even my doctor said they've tried everything. I've tried a combination of meds too. The only med that works is ativan, and it's super temporary, about 4 hours, 8 hours if I do a slower release benzo. I'm already addicted to it. I have chronic illness too AND health anxiety. I'm scared to get old and die of disease too. I want peace from my own mind and body.

People absolutely will not black out on the way down from a fall like that. Maybe very rarely, but how would people bungee jump if that happened?

I'm sorry you deal with health anxiety too. It can be overwhelming.

cliff diving, sky diving, and roller coaster drops too. people usually stay conscious for the entire time when falling from high up.

i'm really sorry to hear about your situation OP. it sounds stressful. health anxiety, chronic illness, and benzo addiction are all things that are hard to deal with just on their own. if you choose to make this jump you'll probably still be afraid while you're falling, but you'll definitely die from it. i used to think that i would die via jumping off a highway bridge but my fear of heights and having nowhere to park the car made it harder to go through with. i went an amusement park last month for the first time in a few years and i felt incredibly scared every time i was high up, so i think i don't have the guts for jumping.
