"You're not alone." Gives me no comfort. Are you telling me there are others who want to die? I don't know how that would be a good thing. Yes, sometimes it's nice when you have a group to turn to, but a lot of my discomfort with life is seeing other people struggle. I'm not going to pretend being an 'empath' or anything—I'm a neutral person at best. I just feel bad when the world is a hard place for others to live in. And it sucks seeing others live in poverty, fall victim to climate change, struggle with mental illness, face discrimination, endure war, lose loved ones and a bunch of other shit.
Do people expect me to say "yay" when they tell me others are suffering together with me, or have I completely misunderstood?
It goes into the same category as "It gets better." How would someone expect me to believe the phrase, when you told a younger person: "It only goes downhill from here on out" ten seconds ago?
