I would. There's nothing for me in the real world. If there was a way to make money in VR that would be my full time job. I would spend my time catching monsters and selling them or raising them. either way I want to exit this reality whether with SN or VR. I'm basically useless, won't achieve anything in my life, so why not just tune out and live in VR? maybe that's my destiny and the destiny of many like me, to be avatars in a fake world, live fake lives, then die. I'm not going to invent anything, write anything, discover anything, but I can't wear a VR headset, that's the one thing I know I can't fuck up. I'm really serious about just living in VR. the only issue is the money. if there is one game or a few games where you can make money I'll just do that and pay rent. There's no point in learning skills, I'm not going to fool myself by thinking I can get a good job. I'm stupid and mentally ill and I'm getting up there in age. I have trouble learning things and keeping a job. There is no way for me to progress in the real world. all that is left is progressing in a VR world. I wish I had realized this sooner. I would have just bought a headset and played VR games instead of trying to be someone or achieve something.
What kind of VR world would you live in? Are there any VR games that you can make money in right now? Can you recommend any good VR games?

Not exactly VR, but a similar concept. In the movie Surrogates, people basically stayed home and interacted with the world through android avatars. If I could live in any VR world, it would be Cyberpunk or Deus Ex for sure.

There is this segment of game called The Observer where it is set in cyberpunk like future 50-70 years from now where you play as a futuristic cop who was in an apartment building investigating and all of sudden a lockdown happened where tenants were also disconnected from the internet. One guy that the cop knocked on his door to ask him questions was baffled why was he in a room with a headset on his head. Long story short. It turned out that the NPC has been in virtual reality for 2 months straight playing as a captin of spaceship and he completely forgot about his real life identity and living until he was forcibly disconnected from the internet where he couldnt understand what happened to transport him from his spaceship to an ugly apartment. It was funny but I think very realistic too

Only if it's actual VR like in stuff like the Matrix or some animes where like your brain actually gets plugged into some digital simulation that feels completely real. Current "Virtual Reality" is just dumb boxes and accessories that make people who wear them look stupid.

I'd be hesitant as there are a few people I'd miss, but ultimately I'd be prone to saying yes. My real world is kind of shit and I'll never be the type of person I'd like to be in real life. My main reason for considering ctb is because I want to have an escape. If that escape is permanent VR instead, then I'd take it. At least I can do cool shit like ride a dragon instead of continously suffer in a boring, depressing world.

If moving to a VR world was an option, I'd love to move to one when I don't ever have to interact with real human beings. That would be beautiful.
On the other hand, if money and "duty to the country" weren't an issue I wouldn't even need VR to live happily ever after. But, unfortunately, money are an issue and even if VR games will become a way of making a living, it would still involve a lot of real world interactions such as being signed on a cybersports team, signing promotional deals, finding people to collaborate with etc. I don't think that complete escape from reality is compatible with making a living, unfortunately.

This is an exciting question, and also a conundrum.

Firstly - if the whole VR experience was up to the user themselves - I'm not sure what kind of world I would want to inhabit, because I haven't seen any examples of good societies in our own world yet.

Secondly - if we were to start living in a VR world - how would we know that we wanted that ourselves? Maybe we were put into a system, like The Matrix, and some overlord would drug us into believing that we liked it. For example, we could be living in a VR environment full of dangerous animals, but we would like it anyway, for some reason.

That's an interesting thing to ponder. Ultimately, would it matter if our realiity is objectively good if we perceive it as such and feel happy? What even is a measure of objectively good, does such thing even exist?

VR has a very long way to go before it's graphically appealing enough to spend all your time in there.

There's a reason VR games aren't up to par with the latest AAA releases. They're much more hindered by performance due to 2 screens being rendered simultaneously. As a result they tend to make them smaller in content.

Also multiplayer VR games are riddled with IK bugs ragdoll jittery. They still look ugly

Idk, I'd enjoy spending time in VR even if it looked like Minecraft's hick cousin with a learning disability if there was something to do there, but as far as I can tell by the VR games that currently exist there really isn't much to do in VR. Right now this techlonology is used less as a tool to deliver certain experiences and more like we're crying toddlers and VR technology is a random sparkly keychain that is shaken in our face to distract us with an "oooh, look, shiiiny!". The games heavily rely on the element of novelty as their main and, most of the time, only selling point, and I don't know about you but I think it would wear out on me pretty fast.

These are questions that we may never find an answer to, but perhaps it doesn't really matter, as long as we think that the experience is positive for us.

In the end, we don't even know if our current reality is positive or negative - no matter what kind of circumstances we find ourselves in - because we don't have anything to compare it to.

Like others said, only if fully plugged in and the world were complete enough. If not, I would just get the sad and empty feeling I do when the game I am playing has lost its novelty.

Oh, I think virtual sex could be a huge thing, IF the technology reaches a certain level--which it hasn't yet. I don't think it even will for at least the next 10-20 years.

It definitely will be a huge thing

There's never any good news for incels... :eh:
"Huge", that's the right word. "Big". "Dripping", even. The appellations for my buxom space orcs are many.

Good thing I'm not an incel, because they're going to have to be patient on this one. Take a walk in the park, learn tai chi or something.

BTW: What's with the "this message has to be approved by a moderator" thing??? First time it's happened...
