I've been struggling to pay rent during the pandemic. My landlord says he will call the police and evict me if I don't pay the full amount. I've been paying in instalments, but it's difficult to pay the full amount right now. I don't know what to do.

I'm sorry that you're in such a tough situation. I know there's an eviction moratorium in place until the New Year, but I hope it'll be extended again. Are there any rental assistance programs where you're located? Also, if you're active on social media I've seen a lot of people requesting mutual aid.

What does it say in your contract and how's the national regulations/laws? I would start there. Then I would talk to your landlord and try to come to a solution, but he seems tough about it.

I live in Norway, so I know it probably isn't very applicable to you, but here it takes so much to get someone evicted. It has to go through certain steps before the police can physically get you out, and this can take several months. If not done correctly by the landlord, it can takes a lot longer time.

Of course, I understand that the landlord wants his money, but we're in a pandemic and it's tough on a lot of people. A little understanding would be nice. Maybe he's struggling as well? Try to talk to him, look up everything on your rights and maybe you can ask for help somewhere?

Best wishes. I've been so unsure about my rent since September, and it's such a huge stressor. Can't believe how you're holding on.

I'm so sorry you're in this situation. It must feel so overwhelming and frightening.

My sister went through this kind of thing (granted it was years ago) and she was able to get rental assistance a couple times through local churches, even though she wasn't a member of those particular churches. I realize getting help must be so much harder nowadays with the pandemic, but maybe checking with churches or your county's social services could give you a lead on where might be able to help. Also, depending on where you live, there are sometimes laws that will prevent an eviction during the winter months.

I hope you're able to find a viable solution. <3
