How much is wind a factor in terms of success in jumping? Like 16 mph from a ten-story building?

So funny you should say that now. I went to Beachy Head today and it was crazy windy. My car door would barely open. It made me think jumping would be affected. Like you could jump and be blown into the cliff half way affecting the speed of the fall. But I don't know anything about the science side.. just my opinion x

Yeah, I have those concerns, although I looked and apparently 16 mph is a "moderate breeze" so I'm not sure that would make much of an impact against the downward velocity of a body.

Hello, we had a storm today too. Keep in mind, we usually have the storm-force winds blowing from W, NW, SW. So that is important to check the directions if you don't want to hit the wall/balcony/etc.

I can imagine how crazy the wind is at beachy head by the coast. Obviously this weekend we have a storm.. I don't know anything also about the science and wind velocity or anything else.. but personally I would risk it with this much wind as I can imagine just being slammed into the cliffs and slowly tumbling down with the possibility of "just" being seriously injured

Alright, I see you are from US, so more likely you have E, SE, NE winds

Me neither. I love the drama of that type of weather but no I'd want a still day for sure.

One plus is you may get blown off the cliff, and then people would think it's an accident rather than a suicide.
Out of curiosity.. they didn't take extra measures to stop people going there today..?

I drove round the Beachy Head road and I always scope the place out for wardens, as if I ever go there to ctb I want to know how many of them are around.. I hardly saw anyone.. no one who looked like a warden. Also, interestingly for myself I did see spots you could probably drive up to the edge if driving off was the method of choice.. but apparently you're more likely to survive then :-(
I didn't notice any extra measures no! I like your idea of it being more likely to look like an accident though..

Thank you for that information.. it's really appreciated.. I have a foot injury, doesn't stop me from walking, just running.. so if I was to be seen I wouldn't be able to run from them. But my plan is to be as unsuspicious as possible.. i may even take a camera (weird I know)

It's Lynch's magnum opus for sure, better than Blue Velvet.
The behind the diner scene is the only jumpscare that genuinely unnerved me.

It resonates strongly but I can't really say why because Pinkdonut hasn't seen it. You'll know why. I also love Fire walk with me nearly as much. It has the same transcendent power.

I think it depends on the direction of the wind, for the most part. If you were standing on top of a building and looking at the ground from the edge, with the wind blowing towards your back, and then you jumped, the building would block the wind from hitting you because the wind current would have to go around it, so that might not do anything to affect the landing. If the wind was blowing towards your front, it could push you into the side of building if it was strong enough, but for that to happen, it would probably need to be strong enough for you to have difficulty walking forward while facing in the opposite direction the wind is moving.

I tried to look into this so I could find some good information for you from people who are more knowledgeable than I am, but the best I could find was an article about how wind drag affects the human body. The complicated math caused my brain to short circuit, I'm sorry to say, but maybe this could be of interest to you: https://rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1256/wea.29.02

"This figure and simple dynamic analysis
show that if all the approaching air decelerates to a standstill in a straight line (dashed) from an initial speed, V, then the drag force is given by (r/2) AV 2, where A is the cross-sectional area of the obstructing body, and r is air density".

i read up to there and realised I didn't become a matematician for a reason.
but thank you.. I will try and dissect as much as is possible for my brain.

I don't know about 10 stories (which approx 100 feet).

What I do know is my jump location is 2,000 feet that going at terminal velocity 200 km/hr.
And I did ask a physicist and the physicist answer me, if you jumping at 2,000 feet no amount of wind can help you, unless it like hurricane 5 blowing up at you. And hurricane 5 is at least 200 km/hr in order to have any effect at all on gravity. So there that.

100 ft vs 2,000 ft is a HUGE different in height, so I would be worry about wind speed at 10 stories. I wouldn't risk it at such low height. I would chose a non-windy day.

Maybe the best way to ensure success would be to jump from a height of 2,000 ft instead of 100, but it would still depend on what it is you're jumping from and what the wind direction and speed is, whether or not it would cause a problem.

Would 882 feet into water be enough?

2000ft!! where i live there is no buildings that height. landing on someone or even in front of someone is unfair i think
