I'm going to purchase a firearm tomorrow and I'm just wondering if the barrel length will matter? I'd like to just get the cheapest thing that is feasible and I found a .357 which from all the reading I've done seems like the right choice for handgun. What I don't know is if it will make a difference if the barrel is only 2" as opposed to 4" or 6"?

I'm no expert here but suspect that at very close range the length shouldn't make a difference.
More importantly would be the accuracy of the aim... and a slight difference in angle would be magnified by a longer barrel to a degree.
I'm sure others have more insight though.

I think 18-20" barrel should be fine, but if it is something much longer, then it may be difficult to physically point it at the proper direction to ensure success. Also, whatever you do NEVER aim below the chin!

I'm purchasing a handgun so I'm looking at the difference between 2, 4, and 6 inches.

the longer barrel is always better

the longer the barrel is the more time the powder has to burn which will increase the velocity and so power of the bullet.

a .357 magnum can have 1500 feet per second . it's the velocity of the bullet

Thank you! This is what I needed to know, 6" it is!
