I think it's a combination of survival instinct and also all the deeply imbedded beliefs that society has instilled in us.These subconscious beliefs make us feel somewhere deep inside that we are wrong in trying to ctb.
That life is still worth living and that it deserves another chance.
We sometimes feel guilty about ctb and then we feel guilty if we change our mind about ctb.
In reality, feeling guilty about any of this is unnecessary.
Does a soldier who goes to war against a greater enemy feel guilty?
No,he feels great to go die for his nation. That's what he's been conditioned to feel. But is the concept of martyrdom for a nation justified. Is the concept of `nation' even justified.
I don't think so.It's just human made.
Yet societies cheer those who literally ctb in the name of patriotism or religion.
If it's okay to die in the name of land, religion, nation and such things, then is it so wrong to die for our own self?
We need to think about the reasons why we want to ctb or why we don't want to ctb.
Past programming is sheer nonsense.
By the way, there is even a religion in which suicide is acceptable.Jainism in India.
Also another important point I would like to make.
If we can't ctb right now,it's okay.Just live on until the momentum kicks in again.
When the winds blow strong enough in that direction,it won't need much effort.

Survival Instinct
Fear of failure

These are the main psychological obstacles that hold most of us back, me included. With enough pressure and triggers in life as well as the right mindset and circumstances, the SI can be overcome. Then of course a very reliable method coupled with knowledge on it's execution can reduce the fear of failure.

And don't forget my favorite thing to help with that

For many years, simply wanting to know the outcome of an upcoming fight (ie. boxing or mma) was enticing enough to keep me slogging.

Now it's guilt and fear, fear of the end of everything and worse the fear of surviving.

There's millions of people who want to die, yet continue to live, even when they are homeless with no teeth or family to speak of. Plenty of people here will live through times so much worse then they could ever imagine, it's just that over time it becomes the norm.

The sudden fall from grace is as predictive to suicide as someone who has had a slow burn through hell.

True. When we burn slowly thru hell,we become kind of habituated to it.That's why when life hits us with a sudden jolt,it could create enough momentum to actually follow thru without too many conflicting thoughts.

I have bipolar disorder and for me it might take a mixed episode - mania and depression - to finally follow through with ctb. Depression on its own leaves me too drained, straightforward mania is too enjoyable. The manic side will provide the necessary impulsivity, a quality I tend to lack otherwise.

I am here due of one reason only - a lack of peaceful methods. Now I'm gonna have to jump.

yes I'm waiting for a mixed episode. I could do it when manic, I could easily jump when manic.

Well jumping is a terrifying method but it's from a height of 876 feet into shallow water. The KO should be instant. I'd rather do that than SN because the horrible discomfort that may come with it.

Well it's suppose to be a 7/10 which seems pretty peaceful when you take into account that cyanide is a 5/10. From a lot of stories I heard, the experience seems pretty unpleasant. A lot of people ended up calling EMTs due to the pain. For some it's not as bad. It depends on the person I guess.
