Why is the US often so hypocritical on pornography/nudity?

I hope that is not too condescending or offensive to anyone. But I think many people from Europe have this opinion on the US. I just cannot really understand the prudery. I think the US is the country which produces the most porn films and I think a high percentage of the population watches porn.

Something many people in my country don't understand is the following: why is it so damaging to see one of Janet Jackson's nipples but watching violence on TV is okay? You could argue about the damage violence in movies can have to kids. I am not an expert on that. But the US is way more liberal concerning that in comparison to my country.

But what is so bad about a female nipple? This won't traumatize anyone.

Though I can understand why Americans wonder why nudism is so widespread in Europe. I really dislike it too. However I understand the allure of it and would not prohibit it. In my opinion nudity is too much of a taboo in the US. Nowadays instead of visiting nudity place you could also instead just upload some nudes of you on a porn site. The result would probably be the same.

I think a big reason for this prudery are the evangelicals. I would be pretty angry about them if people like had so much power in my country. Their stances on suicide are horrible and condescending. But the church is also too powerful in my country.

I want to apologize if I sound too rude with this stance. But I think many Europeans can't really relate to the prudery. There is so much censorship on US TV. It is weird. It is the country of freedom of speech but you can't say fuck on TV.

Of course my country is also hypocritical in many instances. The hypocritical German morality is famous. Maybe this stance is part of it who knows?

What do you think about the prudery in the US? Am I wrong?

I read about a 17-year old here that CTB over sending a dick pic and getting blackmailed over it, they threatened to send it to his friends and family. I can't help but think that if America was as accepting of sex and nudity as they are with violence, this kid would have seen it as not such a big deal and not felt he had to take his own life. He was otherwise a popular kid. It's just a messed up society where parents and schools teach us to be ashamed of our bodies so much when a dick is something 50% of people have.

Many religions incorporate social aspects into their belief system and Christianity isn't an exception. A common interpretation of the Bible seems to be that our very bodies are sinful, or at least became so after the serpent deceived Eve. Adam and Eve covered their bodies to hide their sin and shame from each other as well as God so, from that point of view, whenever we display our bodies we are displaying our sin and lustful desires onto others.

In reality, early clothes were most likely invented because, well, "Brrrr, it cold. Wolf pelt make warmer," or something but the Bible tried to make it more than whatever it actually was. Therefore the more engrained those beliefs are in people within a society, the more likely it is for nudity to be viewed as a taboo.

I'm completely naked when I go running. I never understood the "Free the Nipple" thing. A penis is much larger and should be higher on the pecking order if we're going to free something.

As for the OP, I'm not sure I agree with the US being prudish. The Janet Jackson nipple was only a big deal because it was outside the norm, in the same way the Will Smith slap was. So I don't think it was about nudity, I think it has more to do with certain things should go a certain way, and if they don't, we're all "shocked." Of course, the majority of us don't really give a shit, and of course we're still all perverted as hell for the most part.
