I don't think it is neither cool nor important to have a high reaction/post score. But I want to elaborate on some thesis why some people have such a huge score. Maybe the stuff they write is really relatable and well written. Maybe there are eloquent or they are controversial. If a post is controversial it causes a lot of negative/positive reactions. This is why media uses emotionally overdramatized titles on social media. However I absolutely don't want to imply anyone would do that on SS. I really doubt that.
Maybe the people who have a high reaction scores are funny and make good jokes. Maybe there are extremely popular and are seen as an important part of the community.

On the other side. People with lower reaction scores might be more balanced and nuanced in their way of argumenting. They might dislike overexaggerating and are more calm and neutral in their posts. Moreover helping an individual who is lonely and barely has connection in this forum might not bring that much reactions. Helping an individual member might won't give that many reactions as some unpopular or controversial takes.

These are just some thoughts on it. The post/reaction relation does not necessarily mean that the posts are of higher quality. Though when I see something very good on SS and when it is on point I always want to give it a like to support the member who has done a good job.

In contrast to above, I think I've said maybe one word in the chat ever.

Many of my posts are short [often just a single word] and in goodbye threads and those usually get a few reactions each.

Damn your post/reaction is really huge. Though this should not become one of those dick-measuring contests.

Why not though? I mean let me have something.

But nah, to clarify, a high ratio often means members post on others' profiles. Or else they have a lot of friends on here and get likes from all their buds. When I first joined the forum, many posts would get 5 to 10 reactions, just because it was more close-knit. There was more of a sense of unity back then. So oftentimes it's a remnant from the good old days.

Half my reactions are from @Deafsn0w, @Angel Goddess, @JustAboutDone, maybe a few others.

I do not even know why this matters and why it is such a big deal. It all seems so pointless and insignificant to me. I am genuinely confused as to why someone would make a thread about this.

They use the chat.
tbh Ive found that reaction score seems to increase moreso from threads and posts than it does it from the chat alone. Reaction score is such a weird aspect of this site...I dont really understand the purpose.

I think it is something abut guys wanting long ... numbers. Or is it competitive people, rather than guys?

Now really, I did look at one persons profile because I was curious about their crazy high reaction score / messages ratio, and it turned out they use profile messages, and get many many reactions there, while the profile posts themselves do not seem to count as messages.

I really like reactions to my posts. They make me feel like someone read what I said, and cares enough to click a button. Hell, I think I am starting to understand was Likes and Instagram followers and all of this strange world is about. Haha, SS is teaching me stuff about Insta and fb and the likes!

Well we all started out with zilch, and like you said, sometimes the low-effort posts can accumulate a high number of reactions while the posts and comments that some members put a lot of time and thought into may receive very little, or none at all.
Case by case basis.
Suicidal people especially don't always have the energy to read and digest novel-length dissertations (which I, myself, am sometimes guilty of producing), so short & sweet, or humorous posts and comments could possibly garner more attention at times.

Also, as others mentioned, the chat is a relatively easy place to raise your reaction score (I believe, without raising your message score?.. so the ratio seems more impressive).

I don't take it too seriously and rarely pay attention to anyone's score (I'm even blind to most usernames quite often) but I don't think it should be abolished, it helps others have an idea of another member's track record and involvement with the community, and can sometimes (clearly not always) be utilized as a factor to determine whether someone is here in bad faith or not.
Furthermore, it's a light incentive for people to contribute to the conversation, which is vital imo, but not necessary if someone simply wants to lurk or maintain a quiet presence.

I don't think less of anyone for having a lower score nor do I think better of someone for possessing a higher score.
At least we can all choose the color of our usernames now so it's less intimidating to see the bright pinks and purples/reds (which used to be exclusive to a high input and score in the threads) and immediately think "oooh big shot incoming" lol, conversely the scores listed are less "in your face".

I'm still glad to see anyone engage with anything I write on this site, reactions are a part of that. I can rest easy knowing the engagement is most likely being offered with authenticity, and based on the content rather than the face or superficial social reputation behind it-unlike forums which are not anonymous, or less so.

There's a ticket booth at the end where we all trade in our posts and reactions for cheap hollow prizes. I'm saving mine up, I might have enough for a Chinese finger trap by now, don't hate :heh:

Social media wouldn't go anywhere without the popularity quantification aspect... Just imagine, no hearts, no thumbs up, perhaps not even a count of views?? We would simply dump all our electronics into the trash bin, or use them strictly for work.

It really gives away what this "social spider net" concept really hides: the old and tired concept of trying to impress/get admiration from other hairless apes. It has more to do with that than it does with "connecting with people", "sharing important information and sparking enriching discussion" etc.

Of course, some people in here ought to not give a single fuck about these things, since they are going to kill themselves or feel like it. In that sense you should get more realness from people.

Most of my posts are from the counting game, hence why my posts to reaction score ratio is trash.
