Why do people treat each other so badly?

Hi ss,

I am wondering why most people treat each other so badly in the workplace and especially other co workers bosses. I just put my head down and do the best I can and I'm always being backstabbed by scumbags who probably want me gone cause they are trying to get ahead. So many co workers dobbing each other in for the most minor of things.

For example they complain that I am too loud sometimes but I am just doing my job. Another person complained to my boss because there were 3 peices of rubbish in the bin and he said I didn't empty the bin.

I'm at the stage that even when I go to the shopping mall that I don't smile when someone smiles at me, I think to myself what does this person want? I don't trust people at all!

Sympathy makes them feel good. Of course they want it, even if they don't give it.

Unfortunately I was born human so by nature I am apart of the problem but from my perspective its all about survival and now that I no longer want to survive I am rejecting the system as well as those immersed in it. The only people I seem to be able to get a long with are undead like me.

Empathy being a common trait is a myth. The human brain evolved to work on a reward system. Most people only really care about the wellbeing of people who are close to them, because they're directly affected by it. Even then, a fair few people don't even care about that. If stepping on people makes someone feel good about themselves or gets them ahead in life, they'll probably do it.

Empathy is learned, not a thing that is there from birth, and most people won't try to learn it because it doesn't benefit them.

I agree with that. My heart is blackened and incapable of feeling love or empathy, they even slapped me with an ASPD diagnostic because I refused to conform. Fuck this place.

Some generations ago, this weird narrative was not in place. If pyscho did you wrong, somebody (possibly yourself) would have 'words' with him which would, actually, change their tune.

You have made a good point, and to add to what you have said...

What is interesting is that if it is the other way around, and you do something mean to the bully/sociopath/psychopath, they will get very offended and victimize themselves as if you are obligated to be kind them them; even though they believe they do not have to care about how they treat you in the first place. So if you are hurt by their behaviour they will tell you to "stop being so sensitive" or something along those lines, but they are allowed to be "sensitive" and turn angry toward you should you decide to fight back.

I haven't read all of the posts here - so my apologies if I am repeating.

This is a question I ask myself often.

I do not understand this at all.

I know that my ex put other people down to make himself feel better than others.

And still, I do not understand this - the only thing I can think of is that they feel so bad about themselves internally, that this is a way for them to make themselves feel better or superior to others.

Course - this is total conjecture on my part.

It is very much a bullying attitude, and that I will never understand.

I would so much rather help a person, help to make them smile, be kind ... than put them down.

But that is me, and I have long concluded I do not fit in this world.

Not to excuse their behavior but I think it's a defense mechanism against life itself. Hurt people before they hurt you, take something from someone before somebody takes something from you, etc. For some people it's the only way life can be bearable.
