So much talk of wishing. It's strange because that is not how the world works. Is it a kind of infantilism?

The truth is if you want to die it's going to probably hurt and be immensely horrifying. There's no way around it.

i mean, nobody wants to die a painful death. a lot of people that are suicidal wish it were an easy decision, we all know it's just a wish. but if death were painless we wouldn't have to continue suffering in life, it would make everything so much simpler

Everyone makes judgments. It's how we navigate the world.
i mean, nobody wants to die a painful death. a lot of people that are suicidal wish it were an easy decision, we all know it's just a wish. but if death were painless we wouldn't have to continue suffering in life, it would make everything so much simpler
Yes it would be simpler, but when has life ever been simple? I'm starting to see that suicide is a decision that requires a level of maturity that many people don't possess.

i'm not saying it should be simpler, i'm just explaining the thought process behind it. you asked a question and i answered it

I understand why someone might say it.

Suicide still requires planning, purchasing (depends on the method) and risk evaluation. And a lot of attempts still fail. So someone would say that out of frustration.

Just like someone struggling to make money might say "I wish I could push a button and be a millionaire", or "I wish I could push a button to have world peace", etc.

It would be nice to have quick and simple solutions to complex problems. Just push a button.

I've found myself saying similiar things, wishing and hoping that it could be as easy as just pressing a button. I don't find anything wrong with that statement. I know when I choose to ctb it'll be painful and discomforting (depending on the method I go with). I'm sure myself and many others know that's the harsh reality. Nobody is denying it. Obviously it will never be as easy as just pressing a button, but what's so wrong with just fantasizing that it could be?

@angel-of-the-night is correct. I'd like to reiterate what she is saying by saying that it is a reaction towards the sheer amount of effort, failures, and what not involved in the act or process of CTB'ing. Another example is like when someone burns themselves on a hot stove/food, stubs their toe, falls, they scream or curse. It's just like a instinctual reaction to the immediate event or in this case, the desire to end it with as little difficulty as possible.

Well, I don't think anyone saying that actually believe that's possible. It's just to describe how they feel, and I thought that was obvious with the "I wish" before it.

Because the world doesn't work that way. It's like saying, "bleughfsg." It's nonsensical and accomplishes nothing.
Somebody is a pure utilitarian I see.

Sometimes people just want to emote and say things they feel and say things they wish, while also at the same time understanding that the world doesn't work that way, and also expressing feelings about that. It's a thing people do when they have really intense emotions. It's how their brains are, biochemically and structurally. It's time to understand that not everyone is emotionless like you are. You don't have to change, and neither do they, but it is useful to at least acknowledge that other people might do things differently and experience things differently.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all. Every decision to suicide involves weighing up the physical and/or mental pain of continuing to live versus the physical pain of most suicide methods. For someone to make those kind of button statements, it just shows they are at the point where that trade-off doesn't yet justify a real-life, painful suicide for them, but does justify a hypothetical method involving no pain whatsoever. It's just a sign of where they are at in their deliberations. It also might be a technique they use to avoid admitting they are actually suicidal to the point of making a real-life attempt, instead representing the desire as hypothetical. This may be if they fear judgement or sectioning from friends or authorities.

It's nonsensical and accomplishes nothing.
That's feelings and wishes .

Do you think calling suicidal ideation 'ridiculous' , 'nonsensical' , 'infantile' on a suicide forum is good ?

It's really inflammatory .The language is not merely 'common sense' but shows contempt .

Expressing feelings , even if you find them nonsensical , doesn't 'accomplish nothing' . You are not judging but being derogatory , disrespectful and insulting towards people's feelings . As for judging if it was ever the case -- we aspire to be a non-judgmental place for suicidal feelings . Please be more respectful and thoughtful .

I think most valid points against the OP have been made -- this thread will just further anger people -- should be locked @Hasssssuùuu

People fantasize about a lot of things, not that far fetched to fantasize about an easy instant death. I've thought this way before.
