This is not a thread to dissuade anyone, simply a discussion point. Somewhere, we all met someone who gave us a positive vibe or mental state. What did they do or say?
Personally, it was a grandfather, my mother's side. He was of the greatest generation, raised during the depression, fought in World War II, and came back to the US to raise his family. A very nice man who kept his outlook and expectations very humbly. We was very thankful for even the simplest things, things we absolutely take for granted today. He lived to be 87, humble to the day he died.

My best friend of 20 years. She was always positive, hard-working, smart, forgiving. An incredible mother while working as an executive. Unfortunately, she developed a rare illness, suffered with it for over ten years, and died 2 years ago. I miss her terribly, but whenever I think of her I smile.

My close friend. He's made me laugh sometimes, no matter how stupid the humour. Maybe I should tell him that I appreciate him one more time, though I'm worried that will alert him that I'm going to off myself.

A friend I met over the summer, she made me realise that I could be a fun outgoing person while still being awkward. That summer I was like really happy.

I had a classmate last year who was my best friend, I only saw him once a week but it was always the one part of the week that I was happy. Our class is over now of course which is a shame, but I might see him again this year which would be cool.

There are several people who had a positive impact on my life. Here is one about a decade ago. While I was going through a super shitty time during school, it was my ethics/philosophy professor. He was pretty cool and shared some of the similar sentiments as I did (mainly about the authoritarian and overstep of authority, the distrust of authority (law enforcement, police, etc.), how the world is headed in an Orwellian manner, etc.). He helped me cope through a shitty semester (back when I was an undergraduate in college) and during my time as an undergrad. I often went to his office, even after I was no longer taking his course.

Great question.

My father was very emotionally balanced, my first philosophy professor really opened new vistas of the mind for me, my best friend in grad school was the most gifted person I've ever known, my current best friend/boss knows me better than anyone else.
