I know these are two different questions. When I was younger I was a big fan of FC Barcelona. The club turned into FC Capitalism with way too much debts and the way they treat their players is disgusting. I won't go into details but they pressure loyal players to abstain from salary. And the ones who agree to it are more and more pressured to abstain from more and more money. While they spend insane amounts of money on way too old players. They are so fucking stupid.
The way the handle their financials is the counterexample for sustainable managment. They gamble in a very stupid and naive way. I predict this will backfire for sure.
It is ridiculous who can become president of the club. Always the people who make megalomaniac promises which will ruin the club.
Football or soccer has lost a lot of values which were imprtant to me. As a child I did not care but now I am disgusted.
My favorite player for a long time was Lionel Messi. But some years ago his tax fraud became public. It disgusts me that people who are so rich are still so greedy to violate the law. And he did not really get a real punishment.
At least he is not like Cristiano Ronaldo. Though I think there are some milder allegations in this direction with Messi too but I am not sure. If you are not familiar with soccer. Messi and Ronaldo were always the best players in the world and they competeted who is the better one. It felt like chosing between religions.
In fact the love for sport resembles in some ways how people practice their religion. They meet weekly, they sing songs, it gives them strength, kind of a moral system, many have dedication and love for it, invest time and money, idolize their role models etc.
Now to the story of Ronaldo. There are allegations he raped an American woman. I made some research years ago. I am no expert but I think there are some hints which seem to go into the direction of guilty. He payed the woman a lot of money in a contract in exchange that she does not talk openly about it.
Honestly it is pretty sad what you can do without getting a proper punishment when you have enough money.
I think I have lost a big part of my childish naivety concerning sport stars. It is not really honest and hard work. The amounts these players get are ridiculous. The pay TV shit is extremely expensive due to it.
I don't want to support that. I don't really have a role model or star which idolize. I cannot really assess who is honest just by watching them kicking a soccer ball.

I can remember when my dad made jokes about a football goalkeeper who commited suicide many years ago. It was the first suicide which really affected me.
My dad is a an ignorant jerk. I feel for him (the goalkeeper). But he is not an idol for me. His story was such a tragedy. His wife talked a lot about him after he ctb. I don't want to spread false information and I don't have time to make a research. This is why I don't add more information.
