It is hard to say isn't it? (Maybe it isn't )Europe has east-europe where corruption is very high. Moreover south europe has a high unemployment rate even for the youth. Probably the war is the biggest argument against Europe.
But if we compare the life quality of Scandinavia and the US I would always take north Europe.

The thing is this is a least my perception if you are poor and ill being an American citizen is quite horrible The notion of you are responsible for your own fortune (or similar wisdoms are really toxic). The American dream is dead. Free health care should be a human right. And in the news they portray homeless people as if they deserved their nightmarish lives.

Though if you are rich living in the US can be pretty awesome I assume.

I am quite scared about German welfare. I think I will ctb due to it. I cannot live with that low amount of money. But welfare in the US is even way worse. I am glad I don't live in the US. Also because I don't agree with all these Middle Ages supreme court decisions.

" Scandinavian nations have the highest standard of living" - random google search 2016, too depressed to do more.
Actual google search was "best country quality of life if poor"

Yeah I know that. I rather had the following situation in mind. Before you get born you can decide: Being born in Europe or in the US. You cannot choose the european country. What do you choose?

I don't think it's fair to compare an entire continent of 44 diverse countries to a single, albeit big, country. You can't really draw any useful conclusions from it.

Is anything else random? race?

Probably.
Everything is random. You get a fortune. There are 750 million fortunes for Europe and 330 million fortunes for the US. (Both for all the population) Then you can decide where you draw from.

The US has people who are friendlier on an individual level and has better weather. However it has worse social policy.
: Healthcare, workers rights, environmental rights etc. are all shit. There is too much big money in the US for the political situation to improve.

It might be difficult to determine.
If you choose US you have 1:1 chance of landing in US.
If you choose Europe, you have a high chance to land in west Russia, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain or Ukraine, etc, in that order due to population size.

Based on the QoL indexes of those places vs US overall, US looks better. Politics there would drive me crazy though. Imagine half the population thinking the other half is crazy. Even with a slight basis towards UK

For yourself if you dislike Germany than US seems the clear winner. Your odds of landing in Scandinavia are less than the others, its not as densely populated.

Since your fortune is random you might be one of the lucky ones in US. If you are the poorer ones it might suck but that could be said for some other countries. It might be much worse in US though.

I think neither option is good and the best is not be born at all.

I'm a Scandianvian myself - a Swede, to be exact - and people shouldn't be fooled by what's written about our country being so great. The waiting lines in our health care system are extremely long, which has resulted in people dying, and there's basically no financial social system to rely on. Also, no authority really cares about people's problem.

Not to mention that the state has a monopoly on selling moderately strong alcohol and above, which means that they are responsible for alcohol-related deaths.

All those statistics that you may read about Sweden are just an attempt to suck up to the European Union and gain some brownie points.

It depends on if you get family and friends who care about you when you are growing up- if you get these, then any basically free country with a decent standard of living is fine.

It all depends on what your socio-economic situation is, your family, background, all that.

I think the US has a somewhat intransigent culture where if you're not from well off roots you're basically a underdog, I think it doesn't value people as individuals (although I feel like a number too) but that's just my opinion.

To answer the question, I prefer Europe. Well, I prefer where I'm going to live well, I don't care where.

I wouldn't be able to tell you until now where you could have lived better, but after the summer things are a little too bad ...

Maybe I'm just biased against my own country, but I feel that it's probably better in Europe. In the US, tons of people are obese, social welfare is shit, and SCOTUS is absolutely stupid
