It's nice to finally be here.

I'd been browsing for some time before, and I'm curious about where CTB comes from. I know it means catch the bus, but what is the bus an analogy for?

It means catch the bus or cease to breath.

The first time I saw it I interpreted it as 'Cut to Black'.

Back in the days of ASH, there was a fervent Evangelist called Lisa Ruby. Her and her husband (who were the only two members of their "church" had a real hard on for ASH and it's members.
Remember, there were no moderators back then and so things could get pretty ugly.
Her website (if you scan down the right hand column) still condemns ASH. She doesn't appear to have realised that it's since transformed across multiple platforms before becoming SS as we know it today.
Of course she condemns just about everyone for some reason or other. Interesting though that back in the 1990s she entitled her tyrade against us as "Altm Suicide Holiday. Bus stop to hell"
