Now he's only famous and rich because he actually survived and he's an activist, and decorated, and blah blah blah. Had he just told his parents instead of jumping, he would have prolly been in and out of psych wards, poor, misunderstood, and miserable like many out there.

There's a similar campaigner in Britain who was awarded an MBE and whose suicide attempt has been made into a documentary film. The reality, of course, is that most suicide attempts are not lucky breaks or reprieves, but trial runs before a successful suicide act is carried out. Would they be so pro-life if they weren't receiving any media attention?
