If I step off the stool and don't immediately go unconscious how long could I potentially suffer like that?

I'm no expert, but I imagine it differs from person to person. I've seen accounts from people here saying they couldn't pass out. But it may simply depend on the thickness of the neck, if it's in the correct position etc.

depends on the person/situation but in general it seems like a lot can go wrong with hanging

not to be the bearer of bad news, but it could take a while.

the nuremberg executions of nazi officials after ww2 had some pretty botched hangings, here's a text summary:

"The executioners were Master Sergeant John C. Woods and his assistant, military policeman Joseph Malta. Woods's use of standard drops for the executions meant that some of the men did not die quickly of an intended broken neck but instead strangled to death slowly. Some reports indicated some executions took from 14 to 28 minutes."

this doesn't really apply to most fsh attempts, would it? they used drop hanging to break the neck, not compress the carotids. you aren't supposed to break your neck if you want an easy death here, just strangulation from hanging using a constrictor knot.

also, 14-28 minutes isn't that bad if you really want to die. but i recommend keeping scissors nearby just in case something goes wrong, unless you dont trust your SI to kick in.

Position the noose correctly above your Adam's apple and the knot on the back side of your neck in the middle so that your noose can perfectly constrict the carotids. Also use a noose that tightens itself.
You should become unconscious after latest 15 seconds and in my opinion it'd be very smart to make you slowly without any pain unconscious while still staying on the chair and then stepping off the chair.

This is what I tried yesterday. Man, it was scary. It seemed like the best I was gonna get, though. Partial until you begin to get a little woozy, then step off. I think it would work but probably only after the ~10 conscious seconds from the study. That's hard.

i spend every day in excruciating pain, that long is nothing to me :-)
I don't believe that :) no human being would be able to hang fully for nearly half an hour while being fully conscious at some point your si would kick in and you'd step back to your chair .
Hanging does hurt yes but with practicing one get kinda used to it but still it's definitely way too painful to have your full body weight concentrated on your neck for half an hour while being fully conscious let aside that this is absolutely impossible even with the most stupid positioning of the noose and even if your noose would be not tightening itself you'd get unconscious maybe after 1 min . There are lots of videos of people doing everything wrong and still they get unconscious after 1 min .

Right, like I wanna believe regard of my method as long as my rope or anchor point doesn't break I'll be dead or unconscious - same thing. Within some minutes. If that's not the case I'm done lol 😂 I'm finding a train

I think with full hanging the most difficult part is to step off the chair. I remember my attempt while I was on the ladder I was like 60cm above the ground and it was so terrifying knowing once I step off the ladder I will hang there in the air fully.
When I do my second attempt I'll definitely try it that way and it should work because all you need is constant pressure which lasts maybe about 15 seconds and that pressure doesn't even need to be much little bit actually so little that you won't feel any pain would be enough to become unconscious but then again the main issue will be to step off the ladder

well yes, if i had a chair to step back on i'd probably step back on it. but if i *had* to go through that then i would :p

the other information is good to know ^_^

Making the choice is very, very hard. I'm beginning to psych myself up for it again but I know my odds are low once I'm on the chair. It sucks, man.

yes it sucks my life is unbearable at this point. Every day is just a painful torture and I really need to do this .
Every day when I wake up first thing I think about is taking my rope going to the woods and dying there.

I just gotta make the decision firm in my mind. Walk out to the backyard and do it. Many have. So far I've been putting myself in the position but not really deciding. I've hoped partial would catch me by surprise--oops! Unconscious! but it's clear that's not gonna happen. Step up, lean in, step off.
