I hope this is okay if labelled NSFW. I am always interested in questions about morality and ethics. I once made a thread why most pornography might be immoral. My initial point was a news article I read. The story was the following. A young women learned that there were nude pictures/videos of her on the internet on pornography websites. The way she learned about it was special. One of her best friedns admitted to have seen her on such a website. I try to paraphrase it. (it is a while ago) The friend said something like if he did not tell the truth to her he would have forever a guilty conscience about it/could not be at peace.
Though it was kind of difficult for him to admit that I assume. The video was taken by a spy cam.
The whole point of the article was by the way how evil-minded such websites deny the requests of people of whom videos were upoloaded without consent.
I would probably do the same. Telling the other person the truth. Though it probaby depends on the person. How close do I know these people? It can be a really difficult moral dilemma. I think I would ruminate a lot. If I found videos of my sister I would tell it her as soon as possible. If I saw compromising pictures of someone from college who I barely know this would get really difficult. How close do I have to know these people so that I have a moral commitment? Like the situation could get so extremely awkward. I think I would be extremely worried how embarrassing the situation could become. And imagine you actually only confused two people. I think I would die a thousand inner deaths. I would have to be 99% certain for doing that I assume.
Obivously there was the commitment not to share these pictures. Though there are also questions what if these people are really evil persons and bully other people. It is difficult to be act morally in such a situation. I think most people would not act morally. I am not sure how I would act. I think I would probaby not spread the pictures due to the legal concerns. However I am not sure. Is there even legal trouble just to send a link to such a website?
I cannot really clearly say how I would act. I am glad I am not in this difficult postion. It also depends on the circumstances who uploaded it, when and why. I cannot make a clear statement by generalizing all cases.
