I don't care much about fashion. I once told a friend that I didn't care what I wore. They corrected me- that I in fact cared a great deal and tried to dress to disappear! All dark colours. Nothing too flamboyant.

Mostly now, I'll dress for comfort. Even if going out now. I just avoid places I ought to look smart in. I'm scruffy at home because my (creative) job is messy. I'm only marginally better if I do happen to go out. It will still likely be something casual and boring but at least, not covered in paint or glue!

I'm also content to be single now so, the need to try and impress a guy has (thankfully) gone.

So- how about you? Is your personality reflected in what you wear? Or, is what you wear at odds with how you feel? Maybe you have to present professionally and together when, you don't feel it at all. Do your clothes bring you confidence or, make you feel akward? My brief tries with feminine clothing made me feel uncomfortable.

Does your physical shape affect things? My brief interest in clothing tied in to when I lost weight. When I'm (more commonly) overweight, I just think everything looks terrible so, I can't get enthused about things. I hate clothes shopping in fact. Some relatives never understood that because- no matter their size, they made the effort to look their best.

What's your most outrageous clothing purchase? I loved the look of two jackets in a shop once. They were kind of hippie I suppose. Made out of colourful fabrics stitched together. They also had pointed hoods- like elf hats. One was patchwork- like 'Elmer the Elephant' for those who know the children's story. The other was slightly more muted. I think I wore the muted one a couple of times out but, they were a stupid purchase really.

I also bought some very high heels in a sale once. Also- utter insanity. I could barely stand in them, let alone walk!

And a very cool t shirt with an octopus on but again, the fabric is too clingy for someone of my dimensions. It still looks cool though, just displayed on a hanger.

So- how important are clothes to you? Are they just practical, annoying or an important part of expressing yourself?

The poll is kind of crap and limited really. I couldn't think of much to add. Not being very fashion orientated.

I wear what I find beautiful or comfortable, depending on my mood. Just different styles.

My brother has described me as being "fashion impaired," ie. I don't even know what "good fashion" would look like. I generally just wear what's comfortable. Though I am kind of the opposite of you in that when I'm skinny I put in zero effort to look good, because everything looks good on me, but when I'm fat I start putting in more effort because it's that much harder just to look minimally presentable. So now I try to flatter my body type more, mostly by wearing only loose, high-waisted pants that cinch tightly at the waist.

We're similar though in that feminine clothes make me uncomfortable -- I don't feel like myself wearing them. And I haaaate clothes shopping. But lately I've had some more success in shopping because I ask myself three questions before buying something, and in order for me to buy it, ALL three boxes have to be ticked:
  1. Do I feel like myself in it?
  2. Do I feel pretty in it?
  3. Is it comfortable / could I see myself wearing it daily?
  4. Bonus question: would others agree that it looks good?

I usually wear whatever's on top of the pile in my wardrobe. I don't really care whether the combination I randomly pick for the day matches or not, because I rarely leave the house and grace the world with my presence. I also don't like buying new clothes because I feel like I look bad in everything. And if I absolutely have to get something new, I prioritize comfort over fashion. As long as I don't look like a sack of potatoes, that's good enough for me.

What's your most outrageous clothing purchase?
Once, I bought a feminine, flowy, floral summer dress. It was beautiful (something I can't exactly say about myself). I looked terrible in it, but for a while, I wore it in desperate attempts to change the way I saw myself (and ofc it had the opposite effect to what was intended :P)

It's one of the three:
1. Adam Sandler-core; baggy things on top of baggy things, flip-flops with socks and the like.
2. All black, fishnets, spikes, leather, the kind that makes elderly people suspect I may sacrifice lambs to satan.
3. More colors and accessories than eyes should need to endure, basically decora-lite - "lite" due to my lack of spoons to upkeep such a demanding style, and 90% chance of it becoming sensory hell within an hour.

I only wear clothes for two reasons:

1. To be comfortable.
2. So others don't see me naked.

The first one I do for myself, the second one I do for everyone else. You're welcome!

I will admit, though... outside of work-appropriate attire when I've worked... mostly I wear shorts regardless of the time of year and I own mostly short-sleeved shirts. I love nothing more than to be out in the winter and see young kids all bundled up and they don't want to be and they see me and start asking their mother why they have to wear all that when I don't... and I hear none of this, but I know it is happening once the mother looks at me and has a "why are you doing this to me" expression. It's the rare situation when I am okay with being out and around people.

Oh, and not for nothing... @darksouls I also am a fan of tall women. When I was growing up I always thought it would be nice to have someone to be able to look into their eyes and neither of us had to strain our necks. I'm 6' and I do not at all discriminate based on height, I've always had that thought in the back of my mind... even though most (not all) of the women I've tried to go out with are much shorter. I did know a girl in High School who was about my height and we were friends but she always was with someone so I never asked.

I love looking good in clothes, it's one of the only good feelings I get nowadays when I put something on that I like. I like bright, vibrant clothes that stick out or look odd, even if it objectively looks bad in public, I don't care because I feel happy to wear it yknow.

I made a few overly well-dressed purchases that i never wore because i either never had occasion to due to being unable to fit into work or to have a social life. But my most ridiculous was a puffy style of t-shirt that was supposed to be really comfortable and had a michelin-man look. i think it even touted health benefits lol. i was young but 'm sure i'll get scammed again tomorrow.

I dress to make myself feel good. If I don't feel like dressing up, then I'll wear whatever I'm comfortable with. If I put on make up and a neat outfit, usually I would go to a photobooth and take photos to make myself feel good (and not feel like the effort I put into it is a waste).

I wear clothes that I like and that are comfortable to me. I do not dress to impress anyone or to convey anything to the outside world. I wear what I want, because I like it, and that is it.

My clothing tastes are quite eclectic though. I wear pj pants and oversized tees at home. My general wardrobe is from a 2001 Hot Topic ad. But also my dream is to one day own a very nice bespoke suit because I love looking sharp on occasion.
