I'm not necessarily religious or anything but what if we are actually already dead and this is what hell is? For those suffering from severe mental and physical problems where every day is the same with not getting better etc. Does anyone else have thoughts like this?

I've had thoughts that what if I've already lived this, and this is my life "flashing before my eyes" as I'm dying?

"Do you believe in an afterlife?" the gunslinger asked him as Brown dropped three hot ears of corn onto his plate.

Brown nodded. "I think this is it."

This sounds exactly like what I experienced when I was tripping on LSA. I was convinced that I had reached the point of death at some point in the past, time had stopped, and my whole life was an elaborate hallucination of what would have happened had I not already died.

i used to think that i was in a coma and the life that i was living was a lie. not quite the same, but that thought brought me some sort of comfort.

though this life is a far more painful hell than the textbook burning for all eternity. i wouldn't doubt it if this is humanity's punishment.

Cotard's Syndrome (if you think you are physically dead or that you're dying while actually you're still living but we are dying since we were born)

This happens in the movie "Inception"

I'm just discovering that this is the name for what I have. Cotard's. It's a living hell. I don't feel like I'm looking out of my eyes, and I feel like I'm encompassing a thousand dead souls in my body. I shake my head and hope that I can "regain" my sight, but it doesn't lift. I just feel dead. Not figuratively, but literally.

People who have Cotard's think they are actually dead and that their body is rotting. I'm so sorry. How long have you been feeling like this? I am not feeling physically dead but I feel like I stopped living (I can't enjoy life).

We are living in hell. We are dead. Life = death. Think about this. We are alive, correct? Now, while we are alive, we are able to perceive death. For example, while you are alive you can walk down the road and see a dead possum. You can see that dead possum, and smell him. You can smell death. You can see death. You can know death. While you are alive, you can go to a funeral and see a dead body in a casket. You can look at the face of death.

After you die, and your brain has ceased to function (brain death) - your consciousness is no more. Since you are not conscious, you are unable to perceive death. If your brain is dead, and your mind is gone, you no longer have the mental functions required to perceive death. When you are dead, you can no longer perceive death. Or smell death. Or know, or understand death.

I know it's true. I'm not posting this because I'm pro-death. I just have gained this knowledge through experience. While we are alive, we know death. While we are alive, we are dead. After we die - that's when our true "life" begins. Our true "life" is the absence of having a consciousness - the absence of having a brain. The absence of having any senses. The absence of being able to see death, or smell death. After you die, you will no longer be able to see or smell death.

After you die, you will no longer be dead. We are like a child in the womb - we have not been born yet. This life we are living, it's not our true life. Our true "life" begins after we have perished. Then, there will be no more death.

There have been joyful moments. I feel like Hell would be absent of those. I've experienced love. If Hell exists, I don't think love would be present. Sadly, I do think this is actually life. Perhaps life is the averaging out of an idealistic Heaven and the torments of Hell. Mine has skewed more towards the latter, sadly. If Heaven and Hell do exist, and I was slated for eternal damnation, I'd want to live as long as possible. The torments of life on earth have been bad enough.

I wish I had seen this sooner. I'm sorry that you feel like you can't enjoy life. It's really difficult and I hope that it gets better for you.

At this point it's been about a year that I've been feeling this way. It's miserable.

After I had the brain bleed where I was told it was a miracle I survived, I have often though the same. It runs around my mind that my current existence is a façade, and that I am actually in a sort of way-station until I can finally let go of living and accept that I am dead.

And to finally move on, I need to let go of all that I am holding onto and end my existence by my own hands - ie, self-inflicted death.

Oi, such a mind-bender. O.O
