What happens to your body after suicide without ability to pay for a funeral?

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows the process your body goes through for burial rites if youre an ex-pat with no family in the country and you CTB. I know some countries can cover cremation/burial costs if no one can pay for it but I'm wondering if it's the same if you're not native to the country. Thanks!

Probably cremated after so long and either held until someone claims or put in a potter's field.

In NYS they will provide cremation services free of charge. If you're a vet they'll inter your ashes at one of the National Cemeteries. Here in upstate right now that would be Bath, NY.

if you're an immigrant the authorities will contact the embassy and get them to trace your next of kin. Then they'll be required to be responsible for what happens next.
If they can't trace anyone, most countries will keep you in the morgue until the embassy advises them your NoK are identified.

In the UK we have what is known as a paupers funeral, its paid for by local the council of the deceased, only thing is the family for some reason cannot attend the service.

In my notes I have told my children not to claim the body. I will also be informing the council that they are students and cannot afford a funeral. I checked the procedure, the council will take a body and notify those that you said are interested of the cremation date and time.

In the UK, anyone who dies without a family willing to pay for expatriation of the corpse would be entitled to a pauper's funeral. I believe these days this involves a cremation, with the ashes being scattered in the memorial garden of said crematorium. I really don't actually know, apart from expatriation (or repatriation depending on how you look at it) of the corpse is not free and governments will not typically pay for that. We're short on burial ground in this country and I doubt the government is going to store the ashes of a cremated foreign citizen. The body might be held for a period of time for people to come forward/efforts to contact family to be made.


Mehh...I'm just speculating. It's not really a question that needs to be answered that often, I presume. Oh, and of course it will matter which country you're from and where you die.
