I swear to god it is inconsistently picky. Take the below for example:

Screenshot 2025 07 26 at 02 52 08 Getty Images

The top right square probably fell into the same camp. By default, I always select every square with any amount of whatever the thing is it wants me to select. But it usually fails me until I do one with no contentious squares. So sometimes I leave those ones, and it still fucking fails me.

Is that the real test? To see if I get so pissed I smash my computer, which a bot could not do?!

Completely agreed~ :( after doing these for so long, sometimes, I know that the thing it wants me to select is in some square, but I know it's not going to count it and is going to fail me! >_< Also, for traffic lights, do the poles count? For motorcycles and bicycles, do the drivers count? For stairs, do the railings count? I hate Captchas so much! >_< Sometimes, it'll count things as crosswalks where with human eyes, those clearly are markings that are white but not crosswalks! The ones where it gives you 9 images, and you have to click them individually are kinda nice~ That's because there's almost always 3, and then 1 once those images reload~ altho, the images taking 10 seconds to reload can be very frustrating! >_<

It also shows your IP address when they ask you for a CAPTCHA. Not in the image above, but if somebody was streaming, the IP would be shown.

for better or worse (apparently worse, usually) i try to be literal; i only select the "lights" for traffic lights, and the actual bike - though sometimes that square is 90% person. interesting about the walks since i do that fir them too, and yeah i much prefer the disappearing/reappearing images. have you tried the sound one? it's fucking ridiculous sometimes how hard it is to understand lolol

yikes - thank god i usually use a vpn!

from what I understand, the sound ones don't require you to do the last one correctly thankfully! :3 so when I have done those, I've typed in some pretty bad words that I wouldn't type or say anywhere else! xD altho, they can still be really hard, yes~ >_<

I have a record of 8 failures in a row 😡
I realized that most of cases the shape of selected cells should be simple, like a rectangle. When I strictly selected them and got a complex one, it was often rejected.

I have NEVER gotten this specific variant to work so I always skip it until I got one of the other types.

I suck at these. For the most part I've accepted that I'm a robot, but I do still struggle with the knowledge that being a mecha-duck, my life expectancy is more than likely vastly increased.

I hate those things. I feel really inadequate when I fail.

Apparently, other times, it looks at your browsing history to see if you're human... Sasu, YouTube, Sasu, YouTube, Just Eat, Sasu, Google, Sasu... Reckon it must just 'think'- quick, give them what they want before they kill themselves- in my case.

CAPTCHA is essentially a data farming tool. It's not a bot prevention agent like they portray it to be, it's entirely for data harvesting (and now AI training) and creating a unique user profile. Interestingly, the more privacy tools you use (eg: private DNS host, private browser, cookie/browser history deletion, VPN, etc etc) the more captchas they throw at you... Which means nothing.....

Couple bits of reading if you find the subject interesting or want more proof. Video cites sources in caption.
