I guess ita not the first time people trying to shutdown this website and heard that it has been at the past...
Will they be able to achieve their goal? What are your thoughts about this petition?

I've never seen anyone actively encourage anyone to ctb on here. Noone says "do it ctb right now" we support and help if needed. The article is poorly written too

Nope, just blame an obscure nonprofit zero-advertising pro-choice (which includes a recovery section) internet forum instead.

The way they frame the issue is very dishonest as well.

I made a post yesterday along the lines of what do you find most helpful here. I'll have to put a reply or something to bump it up. I wanted to show this site isn't just some crazy suicide cult as it's been called. That the peer to peer is actually helpful to people. Being able to say exactly how you feel and having others relate. I don't know if they will eventually be successful. People just need to be cautious what they put out on threads to not give fuel to their fire. Thats one reason I will not comment on ctb now threads. They aren't going to take my may your journey be peaceful and may you find the love & happiness life cannot provide- and use it to say I was encouraging someone. I will whisper the username and I hope you have found peace.

I think it'd result in more violent suicides also hurting others, more "collateral damage".
Jumping in front of running cars, trains. Also people eating rat poison instead of SN, etc.

They technically have no legal basis for taking this site down. The rules state that encouraging suicide is not allowed. If the mods have that rule and they enforce it, which they do, the site can't legally be shut down by that petition.

Pretty much this. The people behind these petitions are the same ones that post meaningless motivational garbage on their social media.

Another one? It doesn't matter how many they make, they've been trying for years to stop this site and it continuously gets new members. Maybe if they look at the recovery thread they would realize that not everyone that comes here is looking to die, but are looking for a lifeline. Some people have been here since the reddit days so apparently this site isn't pro death. What are they doing about the people who are jumping off of buildings or jumping in front of trains? But they want to focus on a website?

If people want to commit suicide, that's their decision, not anyone else's. And all the information that can be found here can be found in other places.

The irony of it all is that this is probably one of the least vicious and most honest sites out there, at least as far as I'm aware. Many other places I've been have been more of a threat to my mental health than here.

It's sad. A lot of these people are probably heartbroken and confused, and like others say, need something to blame in a vain attempt to set things right.
