But that's not the foundation of our society. Our society is build on liberal values. Liberalism. Which followed after the Age of Enlightenment. And the core value of this philosophical movement basically was: Think for yourself. It's one of the very important reasons we have the separation of church and state right now. Churches dictated what we had to believe for centuries and people in the 18th century started to question that and came to the conclusion that people should think for themselves and make their own conclusions. They shouldn't simply go with the norm of society and accept all the bullshit we're fed since young age. And also one of the core values of liberalism is individual liberty. Personal freedom. But somehow that's not important anymore in any country that was built on liberal values. If we truly believed in the lessons from the Age of Enlightenment, we would have very liberal drug laws and euthanasia should be a matter of personal choice. It shouldn't be tied to the judgement of doctors who think they know better than you if your life is worth living. We're all living in pure hypocrisy. But that argument you quoted is false and doesn't apply to any country that was build on values from the Age of Enlightenment because they directly contradict the believe that we should blindly follow social norms.

Also, that argument is also an appeal to tradition. We used to do many bad things in the past, which were considered socially acceptable. That doesn't mean it was morally sound.

I'm probably investing way too much time into this rather ignorant argument, but it's really easy to dismantle the arguments of pro-lifers.

Yes, that's society way of being ignorant about the issue. "You got problems? I have problems too. Just deal with it brah" We sit here and deal with our problems because society told us to. They give us medicines to deal with our problems so they don't have to immerse themselves in our issues. The one thing they believe strongly, is that once you do all those and shit doesn't work, you must remain alive so we can try and try again. Even when we're tired, hopeless, and worthless. I personally am battling my depression, but I'm so tired of it and I'm tired of the world I'm in. While people see sunshine and rainbows, all I see is pain and grey skies.

I'd say fuck society. In addition to the good counterarguments and rebuttals here, I'm going to give my two cents on it. I'm going to attack this anti-suicide argument via the free will argument.

If a human actually had 'free will', then a human should be able to determine his/her own fate/destiny, even if it meant death. The whole idea of if you want death/suicide then you are irrational and you have to be rational to choose death is full of shit. It is full of shit due to it's circular logic and it's a catch-22. Back to free will though. A human cannot actually have free will if he/she isn't allowed to choose his or her own fate, regardless of circumstances. That isn't a free society, but rather the illusion of a free society.
