HA! I so get that. On a slightly related note, I was talking to my 26-year-old physical therapist about music, and he didn't know what a power ballad was. I felt old af!
I am that same age, but I think classic music (late 60s to early 90s) is so much better than modern music. There is so much more artistry and originality and more complex musical compositions. I've tried getting into more modern stuff and like some of it but overall I just don't think it's as interesting. I also think the production is worse because everything is overly compressed, there is no dynamic range, and everything sounds the same sonically. I am mostly referring to rock/metal music so it may be different in other genres.

What do you think? Am I just already a grumpy, out-of-touch, old man? Have I not been exposed to enough newer stuff? Or does it actually suck now?

Nope, it pretty much sucks now. Do you know who Lil Pump is? Case in point.

I mean, there is lots of great stuff out there you just have to look for it. Rock has gotten stale, because there is only so much you can do with, like, blues scales and distorted guitars.

I love classical music but I also love some of the modern music. John Zorn is an amazing contemporary composer for example. But I also think that 99% of modern music comes nowhere close to classical

Modern music is garbage in my opinion. I only listen to music from the early 2000's and anything before. I grew up on old music and honestly it is the best music. Modern music has no meaning and the artists have no talent. They don't use real instruments and use auto-tune. Old music has originality unlike modern music which is absolutely horrible.
