I see a lot of depressed Instagram reels but I don't feel some are genuine, what do y'all think about it?

You're right actually, 714bella got "cancelled" a while back in 2023 because she made a "relatable" depressed reel with the caption "something something depressed (my arms hurt)" indicating she sh'd but people zoomed in on her arms and she had no scars and used the excuse that she's a content creator and has to do what she has to do.

To be fair she was like 14, but that leads into the point im going to make.

It was fine when it was depressed people who just wanted a community of other depressed people to relate to, but unfortunately when things get brought to TikTok and ig with a bunch of minors you can expect them to fuck it up and commodify it into something cute and trendy or "relatable" and it's even worse because it's an algorithmic system and it promotes you to watch more of that toxic content so it keeps you stuck in fear of you becoming "less funny" or relatable.

Not saying that mental illness is that simple or that social media is the ONLY cause, but that type of messaging can keep you stuck to the point where if you do want to seek help you'll have to spend so much time unlearning the "relatable" mindset.

I also just find it gross when minors or people in general post cuts or give tips like dude this is so inappropriate.

I haven't used Instagram since the 2010s but I assume that these reels are a more advanced version of people posting their medical bracelets

or making sure EVERYONE knows they are going on "hiatus" and not to contact them although you will still see them online watching to see if they get sympathy comments and stuff or people asking them what's wrong

with a mixture of the whole "this *insert mental illness* is trendy" thing like when people sold merch that would literally just say the word anxiety on it or that + a description of an anxiety medication

also those annoying sad bart edits (simpsonwave I think it was called at the time) that showed up as vaporwave music and aesthetics slowly faded out and nostalgia for dark aesthetics and grunge came in + xxxtentacion was popular + sad boys and sad girls were still a thing but going for a more grunge and sad rap aesthetic instead of a vaporwave one + oh also Melanie Martinez was popular at this time I almost forgot and let's not forget about Tumblr

ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS ERA TO BE ALIVE FOR but I would maybe prefer that to the current times and social media trends
