@Freedom InDeath Have you experience any side effects of the anti psychotic drugs?

yes I've had some of the problems that you've had on this drug. It made me put on weight, made my borderline diabetic. It made me super tired and The next day I was lethargic too.

Not sure if you were asking me a question but the side effects went away after I stopped them. With good diet and exercise weight is improving for me. Are you done with anti psychotics as well?

That sucks to hear people have had negative experiences. I think all psych meds to a degree are poison. I've taken so many antidepressants and it was 100% side effects zero or next to zero efficacy

I hated them.

When I was first erroneously diagnosed with bipolar in the late nineties, my psychiatrist's way was to treat with antipsychotics before trying antiepileptics or lithium. Her reasoning was that antipsychotics don't require regular bloodwork to check levels. At the time, lamotrigine was not yet popularly prescribed, it never even came up. I tried 4 or 5 antipsychotics before she moved on to other meds.

On one antipsychotic, I was driving down the interstate and zoned out, when I came back to full awareness I was 3 or 4 exits past the one I needed, and it was hard to reorientate. Quite scary.

On another, I would sit at my desk at work and just stare at my hands on my desk, it was really hard to function.

A few years ago, a doc talked me into putting me on Seroquel, I only took it for a few weeks. Not only did it not make a helpful difference, I briefly developed mild tardive dyskinesia.

From my own experiences as well as those of others, I think antipsychotics are way overprescribed and for most do more harm than good. Docs ostensibly like them because they work so quickly, but if one isn't experiencing true psychosis, it seems to me lazy and abusive to treat with them, especially for non-organic conditions like PTSD and so-called personality disorders, as well as for bipolar.

I hate the psychiatric system. I'm just trying to get off these damn benzos now but its damn near impossible. I quit fuckin oxy, but can't kick this. Antipsychotics are like handcuffs in a pill form.

Wow. The first thing they did was check my blood work to see if I was okay to go onto anti-psychotics. I have to get blood work done every three months.

Yes! I've not been on anti psychotic for a year and four months. I'm feeling a lot better. I'm not a zombie anymore.

I was contemplating a keto diet when my symptoms first arose. I useless at cooking though and my oven (in this new house) sucks. I read all about it and it scared the crap out of me because I already suffer from much of what arises as side effects.

What was your experience of keto like? Initial side effects? How tough is it?

[/QUOTE keto is working for me. I'm using it to get rid of this insulin belly. I've lost some weight on it. I'm going to stay on us to diet until I get to my desired weight.
I'm sorry that the keto diet has side effects. I'm sorry that you can't go on it.-_-

OMG I'm sorry that seraquel gave you this effect. Tardive dyskenesia. That's awful. I bet they didn't tell you about this as a side effect did they?

Here are some that I have tried:
Latuda: gave me anhedonia and made me nauseous
Abilify: gave me bad brain fog
Risperdal: no side effects, was good for me beside excessive hunger
Zyprexa: no side effects, was good for me
Invega (current one): no side effects, is good for me. Was on both pills and the shot. Currently on the shot

Aren't the dopamine blocking anti emetics similar to anti psychotics? What is the difference between the two?

Yep, they're basically AP drugs rebranded. I mentioned that to a pharmacist and they said no but I don't believe it, the side effects of Reglan which is meto are legendary...massive lawsuits on that stuff

I love Seroquel XRO it makes me calm and I get a good night of sleep.

I have used Zyprexa, it's really good, but it will make you fat

Antipsychotics are great meds. But you have to use them responsibly.

I was out on it to manage my epilepsy. I suppose it'd explain how I mentally died for... I don't even know. There are a lot of holes in my memory. I remember being put on it, building up to... I think 75mg?
And then bam. Hole.

I've not heard of Latuda either. Sounds horrendous by the side effect.

yeah they do a good job reducing and eliminating problems, but they create others and should only be used until one is feeling better and then should be stopped. In my opinion. Responsibility is key. I agree with you on that.

Doctors also prescribe Anti psychotic to people with sleep problems as well. People with no other problems but sleep. It's a tad irresponsible of docs to do that.

I've been on paliperidone 150mg monthly injections and later as i got tired of going for monthly shots to the hospital i changed to risperidone tablets 6mg daily. The meds made my schizophrenia to into complete remission, I have no symptoms now. I slept more, found it slower to wake up fully, sometimes had a general feeling of being slowed down (don't know how to describe it any better) and put on weight.

The risperidone also had some sexual side effects which went away with a dose change. Overall they *really* benefited me but i appreciate this isn't the case with everyone.

I have no good experiences with Anti-psychotics, but i've never been psychotic either. Low dose seroquel is good for insomnia but also made me more depressed and gave me somnolence. There is very few reasons why blocking most of your dopamine receptors is going to increase your wellbeing.

Lamictal will destroy the memory. Sorry to hear, interesting how it isn't mentioned in the side effects. Then again, GSK isn't the most corrupt pharmaceutical company on earth for no reason

 I know! Some meds just amplify emotions whilst not actually helping in all areas! I'm sorry you had to go through that. Hugs from me to you.
Quetiapine numbed all my emotions. It helped with the audible hallucinations. But all my positive emotions were gone too. I felt like a zombie. It took ages for me to have normal emotions again. I don't think it helped me in the long run.
