Venlafaxine and Mirtazapine
I have taken citalopram in the past, minimal side effects, first 3 days I felt like I had just come off a roller-coaster. But I always get that with SSRI's I think I sweated a bit more also.

Takes 6 weeks to feel any benefit, but placebo effect is common after about a week.

I did feel some placebo effect on the first week, yeah. But now it's back to my depression. Hope I feel better after the sixth week though.

Sertraline and mirtazapine, both lowest doses. The combo mostly helps for what I need it to, Sertraline in morning and mirtazapine at night.

Give it 6 to 10 weeks and if no better ask them to increase dose.

Your GP should be able to change your medicine/up your dose if there is no effects. Keep at it

I'm on escitalopram, I tried amitryptiline which was really effective, just my genitals shrank and I couldn't pee. I would say amitriptyline works almost like legal MDMA, people tend to abuse it often. I'm only on 5mg escitalopram, higher doses give me insomnia.

Thank you for the answers @Suicide_vampire @BPDbitch - I have an appointment with my psychiatrist in 3 days, I guess she will increase my dosage, as I really don't feel much of an effect. I thought that when I start going the AD road I will just start feeling happy/uninterested after the first pill. Guess I was wrong.

If only there was a magic pill we could all take to cure our brains. Whoever makes that will be a billionaire.

At the moment, I'm not taking anything, but I'm considering giving meds one more chance. I'm going to see a new doctor in the hopes that they will be more competent than the previous ones I have been to, but I don't have much hope on seeing any progress. I've taken trazadone and citalopram in the past, but without any success, in fact, I made a plan to ctb after taking the citalopram for 5 months, so that was a bit of a failure I'd say.

Takes 6 weeks to feel any benefit, but placebo effect is common after about a week.

It's funny, I also experienced this placebo effect with the meds I tried, but after a few months went by, I realized that nothing had really changed. I was just trying to convince myself they were working because I wanted to feel better, but I couldn't fool myself for very long.

I was taking Escitalopram before. Was a good pill, sometimes was making me feel high. But after side effects of SSRI I stopped taking it, it was making me feel very uncomfortable.
Also tried Sertraline, very mild effects, but the last two weeks of taking it I had a huge depression, so stopped the medication.

I'm going to be really honest about my feelings on anti depressants. I am a lifelong user of them, but in my opinion they are a sticking plaster. People expect them to make them feel better, but what I think they do is allow you to function.
Imagine this depression is negative one, functioning is zero and happy is positive one.
Anti depressants bring you from negative one to zero.
I think they are used to keep society functioning, if everyone who was off work with depression, it would cause problems to the functioning of the country.
Hope this makes sense.... But this is only my opinion.

I'm taking epilepsy meds, or "shit that failed as an antidepressant", as they are more commonly known in the pharmacy industry.
Pharmacy? I don't know, honestly. Might be alchemy.
Allegedly they do work as antidepressants in some cases, though.
Vimpat (Lacosamide) supposedly turned my skeleton smurf blue, though I can't verify that without removing a good chunk of meat to take a look. It definitely affected bits of my teeth, and teeth are bones so... [shrug emoji]
Does it do a good job as an antidepressant? I'd say no.
Keppra (Levetiracetam) also does a shit job in terms of battling depression. If you poke at me juuust right, I'll turn The Hulk level of angry and will legitimately try to murder you. That is called "Kepprage" and is a very well known and well-documented side effect.
I don't know what other shit it does, and frankly would prefer to not peek into that little pamphlet that comes with the box because it'll probably get me into a state where I'll run to the ICU if I fart too strongly, or something.

I have been on and off all sorts since 1987. The only thing that helped was Prozac in 97. It was like awaking into a new world, where nothing vexed me a t all. I had the best summer of my life. I couldn't believe that everyone else had it this easy all the time. Then it stopped working. pooped out due to tolerance effects.
So the next 20 years of taking all sorts, all doses, nothing helped and everything came with side effects. They had me on double the dose of Prozac and it made me feel like nothing was real and it would be perfectly acceptable to ram that BMW that just cut me up. I took myself off it because I felt I was a danger to other people. I sometimes wonder if the SSRIs that I've been on have contributed to my current physical state and the collapse of my metabolism.
They are suitable for some, but I wish I'd never taken them.

Bupropion

Nothing has really worked so far. However, when i take nothing i'm even more suicidal. So they do work a bit to stabilize me.

I would personally never use anti depressants. Putting myself on drugs will not fix my problems and I prefer to have a clean state of mind.

Tried prozac (fluoxetine) with seroquel (quetiapine) prozac did little, and the seroquel put to sleep. I couldn't work or function.
Was the put on paroxetine. It's the devil's antidepressants. I just went numb, but the spikes and troughs of emotion stayed. Everything else was sanded out of existence. Going off it is hard. Still have withdrawal after 18 months

Got prescribed Wellbutrin and took it for 2 months but it didn't do anything except suppress my cigarette cravings. Apparently it is also prescribed for smoking cessation and in that regard I can warmly recommend it

I take Wellbutrin and medical marijuana. It's the only thing that kinda helps me.

It is prescribed for smoking which I never did.

Nothing as of now. Family is now worried, and begging me to give it a try. I'm worried about the side effects, and don't want to become dependent on them like I am sleep aid. I have a very addictive personality. Idk my brain will literally tell me if I don't take it I won't be able to sleep. So I figure it would be the same thing with antidepressants. I honestly want to give weed a try before I take anything pill wise. Thought about giving CBD a try. I don't want to walk around life stoned, but figure it's worth a shot than prescriptions.

I am not saying this particular med is for you, but I have no side effects from Wellbutrin.

As far as dependence, if you need a medication, you need it. One wouldn't worry about becoming dependent on insulin. :)

I thought hey don't use SSRIs for 'BPD'? Or is it only with 'comorbid depression'

I'm sorry, but do you mean Wellbutrin? It's a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI).

I personally had Bariatric Surgery and cannot take SSRIs.

I see the medication commercials all the time. I get anxious thinking about all the potential side effects. Completely understand not everyone experience the same side effects, and others don't have any side effects. My luck in life is that I'll experience really shit side effects. I'm just hesitant...

I was under the impression Antidepressants aren't very effective for 'personality disorders' while OP said she is starting on one.

I can only speak for myself. I have been on and off since adolescence with Wellbutrin. Must have gone back on it 4 years ago. No side effects.
